a peaceful oasis
Paulinho6... [TA], , London, United Kingdom

My husband, I and our two teenage boys stayed here for one night before heading to Cinnamon Grand. We wished we had stayed longer! A lovely villa in gorgeous grounds. It was so quiet, you wouldn't believe you were in the middle of bustling Colombo!.We were greeted by a wonderful member of staff whose name i didn't catch-my apologies! The rooms were fabulous, spacious and clean.Fantastic bathroom in room 3 with the splash pool right outside the window. Simple breakfast of juice, eggs and fruit and choice of pancakes for the boys. We were recommended a fabulous restaurant by staff called Kaema Sultra and I highly recommend you go.I wouldn't hesitate to come back and stay longer on my next trip.
Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Room 3 was lovely with a huge bathroom accessed through the wardrobe!

A nice little boutique hotel
Mikeroman... [TA], , London, United Kingdom

Tucked away within the busy city of Colombo this little boutique hotel was great as a taster of Sri Lankan life, cuisine and friendliness. The rooms were large although one had a bad odour which I suspect was plumbing issues. The breakfast was a treat of unusual fruits, eggs and fresh yogurt.
They had a small pool which was fine for the kids. Overall a decent little place for one or nights.

Idylic oasis in Colombo
jj-platea... [TA], , Montreal

We checked in for two nights and stayed four. .... an intimate hotel with six rooms; great staff, truly exceptional customer service; good location; really cool architecture (apparently it was originally a private home designed by a Portuguese man); very comfortable bed, spacious room, nice bath and shower; swimming pool downstairs and 'jacuzzi' on second floor; lots of trees, very quiet; good breakfast with fresh fruit, eggs etc., be sure to have the curd; no plastic anywhere - this hotel take its commitment to being green seriously. Re location, we walked into downtown - it took about 25 minutes, by tuk tuk it only takes about ten. It is very close to large parks, walking distance to shopping and the Independence Monument. There is a supermarket 2 minute away (on foot).

Room Tip: I think every room is quiet - it is at the end of a cul-de-sac.

Wonderful stay at Ceilao Villas
crystal_a... [TA], , Melbourne, Australia

We had 3 peaceful nights at Ceilao Villas, which is set down a little lane off Jawatta Road in a quiet area of otherwise hectic Colombo. Our room was large, very clean and the bed firm & with quality linen.

We decided at checkin to have breakfast at the hotel. It was a good decision - the food was delicious and when had a look around after checkin there was not a lot of other choices nearby. Daily choice of Sri Lankan or Western breakfast, with each starting with fresh fruit & ending with "curd and treacle". Whilst curry may not be everyones idea of starting the day, we did it most days during our 3 week stay in SL. We also ordered a couple of room service meals/snacks & the food was very tasty each time.

We loved our stay here, and despite the lack of food options nearby, we liked the location. Being set back of the road a bit we found it very peaceful staying here. After a day out, the cabanas near the pool area are nice to relax in, and there is also a sitting area and a 'book corner' on the first floor if it is raining.

Came across Kaema Sutra Restaurant in the Arcade Independence Square, about 10 mins walk each way from Ceilao. Highly recommend it, we made return visit and wished we had been staying longer to go again - try the fish curry with pepper, yum! There are some restaurants in the other direction (also about 10-15 mins walk each way) but we didn't try them. If you don't want to walk, the tuk tuk's are cheap and plentiful, or the hotel's food is pretty good.

All the staff we dealt with at Ceilao Villas were extremely helpful and friendly, including arranging for a tuk tuk driver to buy 'at cost' some items not available on the hotel menu.

Fabulous Stay!

This small, boutique hotel was a little difficult to find initially as it is actually located down a laneway off Jawatta Road. Being set back from the road does mean it is lovely and quiet though – a real oasis from the madness of Colombo. Watch out for the small discrete brown sign.

The foyer area is somewhat smaller than what it appears in the photos and is a little rundown in places.

We were given Room 2, on ground level, overlooking the garden and just off the breakfast area. There is a little noise from 7am onwards as breakfast is prepared but guests eat their meal outside in the garden well away from the room. The main disadvantage of Room 2 is that the free internet does not reach this far and you must sit out in the hot foyer/library area to send emails.

The room itself though is great! It is clean, large, tiled throughout, has a king size bed and plenty of storage space. There is a bar fridge and a large safe in the wardrobe. The bathroom is compact but fully equipped with toiletries and actually has a bath! Absolute bliss!

Bottled water is replenished each day when the room is serviced.

Breakfast is served individually for each room and consists of a variety of fruit, fresh juice, toast, butter and jam, eggs, sausages, curd and treacle plus tea of course. All served with a smile!

There are two pools – one on ground level and a smaller one on the first floor with sunbeds alongside. It would be a good idea for management to supply pool towels for guests to use.

The staff are absolutely amazing – so very kind and helpful. They couldn’t do enough for us. A car to the airport was arranged with ease.

All attractions and restaurants are located only a short tuk tuk ride away – expect to be pay about 200 rupees on a metered tuk tuk. Cargills can be found about 150m away further along Jawatta Road.

I thoroughly recommend Colombo Hotel by Ceilao Villas, it was very good value for money and we can’t wait to stay there again on our next visit to Colombo.

Excellent place to chill for a few days
Prufreck [TA], , Hadlow, United Kingdom

I chose this property because it is NOT in 'downtown' Colombo. Having said that, it is only a 10-15 minute tuk-tuk ride from places visitors might wish to see. The attraction of this hotel is that it is in a residential area, in an older part of Colombo that is unlikely to be developed any time soon. For people wanting a taste of 'old Colombo' this is a nice choice; if you want to be near the action, maybe consider something closer to Fort.
I spent three nights here and was upgraded to what I think was the largest room in the hotel. I was very comfortable and the pool was outside my door. Staff were very charming and accommodating, cooking me Sri Lankan breakfasts on demand and helping to organise a take-away pizza one night when I didn't feel like going out.
I cant' remember what I paid but I felt I got value for money and enjoyed my stay.

Very good
PB57 [TA], , Hobart, Australia

My wife and I booked a large room as our son was joining us after some independent travel. The room was very large and easily and comfortably accommodated three adults.

We didn't try the pool but it and the adjoining garden area looked very pleasant. We had breakfast in the garden area each morning. Breakfast was good. The first morning we had the funniest English breakfast but moved to the Sri Lankan breakfast for days 2 and 3. Somehow they seemed to be healthier options.

All staff were very friendly and efficient. Among other things they arranged for some beer to be collected from a local wine shop for us at minimal cost. Would return if I went back to Colombo.

Beautiful, affordable boutique hotel a short tuk tuk ride from everything
Mittxxx [TA], , Riberac, France

This place is an absolute gem in the craziness that is Colombo. I have given it top marks because I couldn't fault any part of it, there was a slight problem with the shower holding it's temperature but in that climate I can live with it. The bed is vast and very comfortable indeed, lovely linen, the room is light; we were in room 2 which has a full glazed wall of sliders onto the delightful walled garden. The hotel has a fascinating layout, which makes it feel even more 'boutiquie'. There are coffee making facilities, TV, mp3 docking, safe, toiletries, hair-dryer, armchairs, A/C and even a pool, and all this for a fraction of what you pay in the Fort area in one of the monster hotels. The soundproofing is excellent, which you will appreciate once you have spent 5 minutes in Colombo, the hotel is down a drive, set back from the road in a leafy, tree-lined area of Colombo. There is good eating to be had walking distance away at Independence Arcade, a tastefully restored 19th century building nearby. It costs about 300 rupees (£1.50) for a tuk tuk into the Fort - a much overrated and badly developed area, spend your time in Pettah, much more fun and authentic. This hotel is a cracking way to start or end your Sri Lankan holiday.

Room Tip: Room 2 was excellent and being on the ground floor, probably quieter than those upstairs, thanks to...

Friendly, Comfortable and Great Service
TLPaul [TA], , Owermoigne Dorset

We stayed for 3 nights as part of a family group. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable with good air conditioning and facilities. Breakfast was prepared to order fresh and tasty (especially the curd). The service was first class with nothing too much trouble. The pool , whilst not large, was great for a refreshing dip after having been out in the day. There is a small snack menu for lunch or evening's but we ate out each day.
A really comfortable stay.
