Beautiful hotel with great customer service
Amal-af12... [TA], ,

The first thing i cant forget about my experience in this hotel is the great service we received from the hotel staff.. very helpful, smiley and proactive. especially the lady is the reception Miss Nuwani. she was very helpful in changing our room to a better one next to the pool..she also proposed to us a full 5 days schedule/road trip with a driver that covers most of Srilanka "must visit" places.
we did the trip. and it was amazing. we were able to see most of Srilanka great places and the driver was very helpful and knowledgeable.
Other than that, the hotel is beautiful, clean, with pool, restaurant (food is good) and is walking distance from the beach.
definitely we will come back

Room Tip: next to the pool

Very Pleased
Elen A [TA], ,

I stayed in this hotel for 4 days and I liked it. Rooms are clean, with cold and warm water. The only problem if you stay it the last floor it can be a little bit noise because of monkeys on the trees. The staff are very friendly and attentive . The restaurant in the hotel is also good. The hotel is 5-10 minutes away from the beach. The wifi connection is poor in the last floor

A cool base to explore the area..

The room had a good air conditioner which you need in Unawatuna in April, it was sweltering.
Clean rooms which are made up everyday for you.
Staff was very helpful, friendly and attentive. The reception staff (Nuwani) went out of her way to help me get a document printed (thanks Nuwani!).
Nice breakfast.
lush bush surrounds with bird nests etc.
good value spa to have a full body Ayurvedic massage.

The pool is nice and in the shade however they need to renovate, fix up the broken tiles that are super sharp which cut my sun (which has left a gash, and possibly a big scar)
Poor Wifi connection, no connection in the room (in the tower on the other side of the reception) for the last 3 days we stayed, the wifi near reception/pool area was also in and out ( a bit frustrating if you are like me who needs internet to relax)

Trip of a life time
Shanika B [TA], ,

Our family had the most incredible trip to Sri Lanka recently and stayed at a number of hotels all over the island- Thambapani was the best hotel by far! It was the perfect location with beautiful sandy beaches very near to the hotel. It had gorgeous rooms, delicious food and even a pool!
What made the trip for us though was the hotels warm and friendly staff.
Nuwani in particular was absolutely lovely and showed a real interest in our holiday. She was able to advise us on the best places to visit and went the extra mile to ensure our stay was perfect and memorable. We would come back as a family to visit her and the staff at the hotel a they had a family approach which made us feel at home. Thank you to Nuwani and the staff at Thambapani!!

Warm, friendly hearts and smiles!

This was my first time in Sri Lanka and I was blessed to be introduced to this gorgeous island with a two week retreat at Thambapanni. It quickly became a home from home, cocooned among vibrant nature, a comfortable, clean room, daily massage and yoga....and the smiles, the warm, heart-felt happiness of all the staff, who worked tirelessly but joyfully to make everyone feel welcome. So much so, I really did not want to leave. Thank you Nuwani for your attentive, caring nature, thank you Ranjan for your intuitive, Ayurvedic wisdom, thank you to housekeeping, restaurant staff, are all beautiful, shining stars from whom we can learn so much. I will most definitely be returning to this wonderful, very special hotel.

A little piece of heaven on earth

From the moment we arrived feeling exhausted from our long journey Thambapannis nurturing staff made us feel instantly calm and at home.
The location is beautiful and the rooms and gardens are maintained to a high standard by hard working staff who go about there work quietly with grace and efficiency.
The gardener is amazing and has such knowledge if anyone likes to take time to talk to him.
The restaurant I can say boasts talentd chefs and I personally think we enjoyed nicer evening meals there than anywhere else along the beach. As for the waiters they were charming and couldn't do enough for us .
I thoroughly recommend Ranjan for his massage treatments , he really is on top of his game .
Finally on the whole just BLISSFUL in every way . THANK YOU

Best massage in Sri Lanka
Sarahs_vo... [TA], , London, United Kingdom

Wonderful. Great staff, great room, lovely pool. Would have stayed for longer. My only niggle was the volume of the children at times, in the pool, whose parents allowed them to scream and shout for prolonged periods. As this IS a retreat, and marketed as such, i would suggest a polite notice to tell parents that well behaved, quiet children are welcome in the retreat/pool area. Oh and the massage was amazing - out of this world. Guys - your masseur deserves an award. Thank you for a marvelous stay.

Great little hotel

First hotel on our trip to Sri Lanka, set in the middle of Unawatuna near to the beach, restaurants and shops. Very well received and looked after during our stay, the room was very good as was the bathroom, ac worked fine and everything was clean and tidy. We were able to park the car on the premises. Did not eat at the hotel so cant comment on the restaurant.

My friend and I visited Unawatuna for a week this spring break. In context, Thambapanni Retreat has a wonderful feel and atmosphere. Absolutely stunning building and swimming pool with cute small touches like flowers in the ponds etc. Sufficient fresh breakfasts with very fresh, clean and tasty food served at the restaurant by a friendly (cricket loving :) chef. Very neat and clean with the necessary facilities in the deluxe room. A quick walk to the beach. The most friendly and sincere staff members that made our stay extra special. Will definitely return! A special shout out to Laksman the most friendly and interesting caretaker, Ashane the attentive waiter and Siri the GM :) Regards, M+M

Room Tip: Tower rooms have amazing views, many stairs though. Rooms overlooking the pool would be best.

friendly, quirky and authentic
Emma T [TA], , Goostrey, United Kingdom

We loved this small hotel. The location was great, just a few minutes walk from a beautiful, safe beach and lots of restaurants but it had a quiet, relaxed vibe. As always in Sri Lanka, the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive.
Our room was very quirky built into the side of the hill so had a rock in it! Very clean and really comfy bed. though if you want real luxury - this is not the place for you. Loads of ants in the bathroom for example.
can't wait to return

Room Tip: Ask for second floor with a balcony - some had a lot of steps to walk up!
