Hotels in Sri Lanka

  As a rule hotels in Sri-Lanka are small buildings, located right on the coast.
  Hotels in Sri-Lanka set prices themselves, i.e. state institutions do not participate in price formation. This is precisely why there exists healthy competition among hotels, which allows tourists to choose the most appropriate place of stay. Tips in hotels are not necessary, but willing – they essentially will «give a prod» to hotel staff. By the way, for getting extra services you will be charged with the special tax (GST) – 12,5 % of total cost, so please do not be surprised if amount in the bill will be a bit bigger than you expected. At arrival it is common to give 1-2 bucks to a porter, so make provision of small bank notes beforehand. As like as not hotel’s management sets the rule about a money deposit, i.e. you need to pay in advance a certain amount for services, which you might use further; at check-out the rest of amount is returned you back.
  Most often hotels in Sri Lanka set their check-out time from noon till 14.00 o’clock, but if you have a late flight you can use an extra service “late flight”, available in most of hotels.
  Voltage is usual– 210-240 V, which is why notebooks and other fetched along facilities will function without problem. We strongly do not recommend to leave food leftovers in your room– this will immediately attract attention of insects! Many hotels in Sri-Lanka even establish a special restriction for storage of food in rooms, so please stay alert.
