Situated at Unawatuna Beach( at walking distance). A small beautiful boutique hotel. Very silent place. When you enter to this hotel you fell that you are entering to a place been built only for you. A little pool. Open restaurant with a kind hearted staff. Lot of green around the hotel. you get the feeling that you are entering a small jungle.
Old mansion converted into a very tidy small hotel.
Comes with the convenience of a tastefully designed pool, many options & budgets to choose from. The rooms have been tastefully decorated with antiques & artefacts sourced from the area. The staff very helpful, service very prompt.
Just a short walk to the beach & non-stop party action, yet tucked away near a small rock face. The more expensive rooms are built into the hillside, are hidden from view, but offer a great view of the sea...
If you are looking for a little piece of heaven in Sri Lanka look no further than the Thambapanni retreat hotel. It is a beautiful hotel in a peaceful tropical setting where you can get away from the world or just walk five minutes down the street and you are in the heart of it all. The hotel rooms were beautiful with excellent air con facilities which is a must in Sri Lanka. The rooms were cleaned daily and the hotel grounds were spotless. The essence of the hotel lies in the greatness of its staff. They attend your every need and request with the politest manner and they truly made our stay so comfortable, nothing was too big to ask.We stayed in the hotel for three nights for a wedding, It was the best wedding I have been to and I am only sorry we did not stay longer. I would most definitely return to this hotel and I would recommend it to anyone going to Sri Lanka.
We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of our busy tour of the island. It was perfect for us; peaceful, welcoming and comfortable. The first room we had for 1 night was large and comfortable but a bit dark, we were then upgraded to "the tower" which was lovely (if you didn't mind the steps). It had a large balcony near the tree tops so we were close to the wild life including monkeys, gecko's, fruit bats and fantastic bird life. It was also a bit cooler, a very pleasant, private place to sit and read. I understand they are now in the process of upgrading, certainly a concrete bath is not my idea of relaxing luxury!
The short walk to the shops, beach and restaurants wasn't a problem; the beach and sea were lovely and great for swimming. A nice, relaxing way to end our holiday.
Stayed at Thambapanni Retreat for 3 nights in March 2014. After 3 1/2 weeks traveling in Nepal and Sri Lanka we wanted a little bit of luxury that wouldn't break the bank, and the Thambapanni Retreat fitted the bill perfectly. The grounds are lovely, set around wildlife and nature with a nice little swimming pool. The staff were all excellent and the manager was extremely helpful when we required assistance with services. We booked a morning safari with the hotel which was simple and straight forward. We stayed in room 1 which was delightful. The room was very large with an equally large balcony with hammock. The room was clean also with A/C and fan, separate bathroom and in room safe and refrigerator. We didn't eat an evening meal in the restaurant, only because we preferred to spend our evenings on the beach eating by the sea but breakfast was good and people had said the evening meals were very good. It's a really nice quiet location just minutes from the beach and a great, peaceful place to spend a few days. We'd definitely had liked to have stayed longer and would book again the next time we are in Unawatuna.
Spent five nights here recently. Tried to book for another three but unfortunately they were fully booked. The hotel is away from the noisy part of town yet only a five minute walk to the main beach and all the restaurants and bars. The setting is beautiful with the lovely swimming pool the central attraction. The staff were very good and friendly and the hotel was run to a very high standard .The breakfast was adequate and the occasions we ate in the restaurant were of a good quality and standard. The room and shower were very good The only minor criticism was a lack of wardrobe space .
Unawatuna was our last of nine stops in our three week tour of this beautiful island. We were not disappointed even though we did not get off to the best of starts. Our driver/guide had been of immense help throughout our tour, and we intended to entertain him at Thambapanni. However this was not to be as the Manager informed that he was not even allowed to come to our room (hotel policy apparently). This irritated us more than somewhat and the staff realized this.
The hotel is hidden away in the trees but its only a short walk to the beach. Our room was on the first floor and overlooking the pool which made for a very pleasant aspect. The room was OK but nothing special, the bathroom however is sadly in need of improvement and we can only assume that it is part of the original house as it is quite inappropriate for a hotel such as this.
Had we taken one of the rooms up in the "mountain" this would have meant climbing approx.130 steps and much of the climb with no rails to support! The restaurant served very good breakfasts and evening meals were also good provided you managed to chose from the a la carte.
The beach was good and safe but seemed to have too many chairs and sunbeds which were free to use provided you bought your drinks or food from the cafés.
Unawatuna is a busy little town and in the evenings there are several interesting places to eat, seemingly much to the frustration of the hotel management who were frequently asking guests if they will be "eating in tonight".
Thambapanni has an excellent masseur who also holds yoga classes in the mornings.
I was here for three nights, my 4th or 5th visit to this unusual place. The tower rooms were as usual comfortable but a long climb up from reception. Wonderful trees all around them. Somewhat haphazard maintenance; we had to report several defects, e.g. safe not working. One of the stars here is the excellent masseur Ranjan who is expert in a whole range of ayurvedic treatments and also does yoga every morning. Breakfasts were excellent and one dinner we had here was also good, but the place isn't as atmospheric for dining as the beach. The approach road needs tidying up; I'm glad to know they are planning to improve the reception area later this year. The staff are OK but somewhat haphazard in their training; nice smiles are not enough, and we have had to complain more than once about the offhand behaviour of a certain person.
Very nice, cozy hotel. Beautiful green area with swimming pool. Rested with a small child. Our room was overlooking the pool and in the afternoon, when the child was asleep, it was nice to sit on the terrace enjoying the view. The hotel staff and manager are very friendly and welcoming. Nice to talk to. Very good attitude, especially to children. The room is spacious and clean. Entire stay in this hotel, I did not know worries. We will definitely be back here.
Great hotel with all amenities and a lovely pool)))). it was my first trip to Asia, and thanks to the manager staff that such a friendly and affable met us and helped relax. Incidentally cuisine is delicious and the chef with a big mustache us perfectly cooked their meals.)))
