Fantastic place
Ransika_D... [TA], , Colombo, Sri Lanka

I have visited Kingfisher many times (more than 5) and it is one the best locations at Unawatuna.

There are 4 rooms and the top floor rooms are having a magnificent view. The rooms are very clean and spacious. Considering the prices relative to the other properties in Unawatuna, this is pricy.

They have a good menu, but don't expect anything local.

The staff is well trained and well mannered.

I will continue to visit Kingfisher in the future.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms

Fabulous Sri Lanka

Kingfisher Hotel was just right! Perfect location on a lovely beach. The food was lovely and the beer cold! The staff were very friendly and attentive. We booked all Four double rooms for our family holiday and what a great time we all had. Would totally recommend.

Room Tip: Although the rooms on 1st and 2nd floor to the left as you look out on to the beach have slightly be...

Overpriced.

Stayed here for our last night in Sri Lanka and it is the one place I wouldn't return. Room and view is lovely but for $120 it didn't even include breakfast which I thought was pretty poor. They also charge you extra to use the beach beds even though you are staying in the hotel (and with only 4 rooms it would be nice if this was complimentary). Lacked the personal touch on the other places we stayed. They are definitely a lot more interested in the restaurant and hiring the beach beds than the hotel guests.

Clean hotel, very caring and freindly staff!

The hotel is very clean, located on the sea shore, has 4 rooms and the best cuisine in Unawatuna at their restaurant! All rooms are facing the sea, but there are some palms and bushes in front of balcony, so it gives more privacy and a bit less sea view. Though our room #1 on the 3rd floor was perfect!
There are doors in bathrom and toilett!!! Maybe a bit not that convenient, but more or less fine.
The staff in the morning reserves sunbeds and an umbrella for their guests as well as a table for the dinner.
The only thing I can point out is that a very small cake for birthday was included into our dinner's price, but it is not that matter.
Hotel recieves credit card for payment!
Wi-Fi is available only in lobby and restaurant, located on the beach.
No TV, but it is not needed.
It was very comfortable staying!

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor seems to have a better sea view than on the 2nd.

Stayed at the Kingfisher from 20-24 Mar.... Great location, right on the beach. Rooms were nicely laid out with a/c. Food was very good, possibly the best restaurant on the beach. The beach bar was fun, especially on Poya days!! Sunbeds always laid out for us wherever and whenever we asked for them. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Special mentions for Ranji in housekeeping, Malith behind the bar and Kasun, who ran the front of house. Always smiling, always attentive, great humour, nothing ever too much trouble. I probably shouldn't say this but if any big hotel chains are looking at local talent for mgt development, Kasun would be a great pick!

Best food in town !

All I'm going to say is to try their fish dishes because I have dined there a few times and each time I had some kind of a seafood dish and loved it every single time. My partner normally has the salads and other things which are also very good. They have the tables right on the beach and it's generally crowded during the season so if you don't like too much of crowd this is not the place. I think it's a great place for beach lovers to stick around and have a few beers and enjoy a nice meal. Highly recommend you visit next time in Una beach.

Amazing food

We met some friends for a meal at the restaurant and it was so good, we went there for the next three nights. Prawns are the best we had in Sri Lanka. Prices also good. Says it all really except that the waiters were also fantastic - attentive, go out of their way to find you a nice table and provided quick service. But you need to book for the front half (nearest the sea) as it is a very popular place.

Good all round

We stayed for two nights. Our room was spacious, clean and stylish. Bathroom was not smelly and aircondition worked well. We concerned for the noise level as our room was directly above the restaurant. We had restful sleep bith nights. The meals have a reasonable quality, although a bit pricy, we had 3 lunches and two dinners here. You need to book dinner table though as they are quite popular with travellers. They let us stay extra time in the lounge while waiting to go to the airport which was nice.

Really nice hotel, but ...

Our stay may be summed up in tre words: staff, service, location.
Kingfisher in itself is and could have been the perfect place to stay in Unawatuna. The room is nice (not taking into account the peculiarity that there was no door between the room and the bathroom, a neighbour standing close to our veranda could actually see into the shower if they took a look into the room, which they didn't and anyway we didn't bother), the veranda even better, but there is a but: music. Music from neighbours playing into the small hours. Most nights we managed to overhear it, but some nights it was Impossible. The staff was all of them very nice, friendly, attentive, serviceminded. Still I would like to mention Ranjith, who took care of our room, and made sure we had sunbeds every day, even if we were late out. He responded immediately to all our requests, always with a smile. To the management, make sure you keep him. The wi-fi ws a problem, most of the time we had to go to reception. They tried to change the company delivering the wi-fi, but that didn't help. As for Unawatuna beach, I am more divided. I love to swim, but with the boats going back and forth all the time, trying to catch customers ( and sending out stinking petrol fumes), I was afraid to swim. There is some waves, but not to bad. I recommend tuk tuk-driver D. Prosanna (had a dark pink tuk tuk). Reliable, nice and spoke quite good english.

Great hotel. Top in the area

A wonderful hotel and we wished to have stayed longer. Beachfront balcony with spacious rooms.

The restaurant is packed in the evening. A testament to the quality of the food. It's probably the best place to eat at the beach.

Friendly staff and hotel includes all the little things to make your stay wonderful.
