A mixed experience
Hayley O [TA], , Maldon, United Kingdom

Good points - very friendly welcome and staff. Beautiful grounds and pool area, saw monkeys and birds whilst sitting by the pool. Quiet. Off the road but easy to find (we were self-driving). Lovely staff member offered to wash our hire car! 3 mins walk to the beach.
Bad points - dated rooms, hard bed, small pillow. Clump of dark matter and hair in shower, not nice. One-way glass in bathroom window seemed to be the wrong way round. You can't see out but you can see in!
Very weird musty smell in the room. Got used to the smell once in the room for a while.!
Breakfast wasn't good.
So, a mixed review...

Потрясающее место
Alleksa_2... [TA], , Moscow, Russia

Regretfully not what we'd expected..

After reading all of the previous reviews, we expected a very welcoming hotel with decent amenities. We were grateful for how accommodating the owner was of a late arrival but the room was very much below par for what you'd expect for price.
Several items of furniture were broken, the bed insanely hard (with one thin sheet and a tiny pillow), and there was hair in the shower drain (not ours). I feel it really depends on the holiday that you are on (backpacking versus romantic holiday) but for us we ended up relocating the same day we arrived to a nearby hotel (more expensive but provided a better night's sleep).

Great Place to Rest
Roshan F [TA], , Colombo, Sri Lanka

The service is polite and cordial, the rooms are comfortable and clean, the location is ideal as it is very close to the beach, a very nice in house swimming pool is available for guests, the food is great, like home cooked. This is nice quiet place to spend time with your family or friends.

A small island of calm and care

Villa Ranmenika is a very nice, quite place ideal to have some rest from noise and rush. Ocean is just 3 minutes away. The host - a lady from Switzerland- is so nice and attentive as well as all the staff who pays attention to you all day long.
Villa has quite large clean and good pool, serve delicious food (various cuisines), also breakfasts are very good. Also there is a nice garden with flowers and an Ayurvedic centre. So I could recommend you this villa for family and couple stay!

Our First Taste of Asia did not let us down!!

I would recommend anyone who is travelling on a budget to stay here. The guide we had 'Suren' was an absolute gem and made our holiday. Food was great and very relaxed. Rooms could be upgraded but did not bother us too much as we found the outdoor setting of the hotel brilliant.

The best way to see the most from this hotel is to pay a tuk tuk driver for a day (use Suren he is amazing). We travelled all the way from bentota to Galle on daily outings for very cheap. The staff are brilliant and even though the breakfast was samey samey I found it very nice and simple which I felt was great. Oldest saying goes, if its not broken don't fix it.

The beach is beautiful but bring your own towels for relaxing as there is now beds or no anything really along the beach apart from the Herintence at the bottom. Venture out and don't be afraid to explore all over. Did get bitten by mosquitos a few times and then asked for a cover for the bed which was given and installed. Did not get bitten after that.

This place is full of wildlife in the gardens but we did not see any in our rooms.

Good stay would highly recommend if you are on a budget!!

Middle class villa, located near the beach
Anna P [TA], , Gabrovo, Bulgaria

We were a group of tourists from Bulgaria. We found the hotel and accommodated there. The nature is beautiful and the staff is really nice. The boys who work at the hotel do their job perfectly and their service is very good. The rooms were not very big, but had a fridge and air conditioner. Unfortunately there are a lot of mosquitoes and small lizards in the rooms. Also we had a small problem when paying for our stay - it appeared that we have to pay some extra money, for which we were not informed at the beginning. Although the place is quiet and near the beach. There is also a swimming pool, the watter is clean but some of the blocks at the bottom were broken and had sharp edges. The cuisine is traditional for the local majority of the island. You will finda great variety of dishes at affordable prices, including great services offered by the friendly and kind staff. You should definitely try the "Rice and curry" meal.

A beautiful tranquil oasis

If you are after peace and quiet, excellent quality rooms and service, then this is the place. The swimming pool is nice and big, surrounded by beautiful gardens, and lovely birdsong. A real personal touch with the delightful Swiss owner / manager. Ask her to tell you how she came to build the hotel, and about her special elephant...

Tranquil setting, great value
Knottsawa... [TA], ,

Villa Ranmenika is a gem of a guesthouse. We recently stayed with our 2 children and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very clean, comfortable rooms, delicious food, friendly staff and a beautiful garden setting are some of the highlights. There is also a large pool that the kids just loved. Ahungala Beach is just across the road and is a fine stretch of golden paradise which we found to be nearly deserted most of the time. The waves are quite rough so not great for very young children. My 6 and 14 year old had a blast body surfing.

Room Tip: We took 2 rooms for the 4 of us but there is a suite available. 101 and 102 open to a pretty atrium...

Tranquility and birdsong
kanava09 [TA], , Helsinki, Finland

After many vacations spent at big, noisy, entertainment dense hotels, Villa Ranmenika was a dream. A beautiful Sri Lankan style house with wood framed windows, verandas and rooms hidden in a tropical garden. All this created an atmosphere where you could instantly relax.

The room was very clean with nice wooden furniture. There was enough hot water with good pressure. You could follow your individual day rhythm by ordering your meals from the restaurant. Food was really fresh (mostly ecofood) and excellent. Actually more like Sri Lankan home made food - but spiced to your taste.
At the beautifully shaped pool you can spend your time reading or napping. No loud speaker
music but birdsong and tranquility.
From Ahungalla it is easy to make trips to Galle, Beruwela or Hikkaduva. At Balapitya you can find boat safaris on a big lake.
A hint: go to the beach around 10 a.m then you can take part in fishing with a seine. Your help is appreciated by the fishermen. The beach is NOT crowded.
