Amazing place in front of the unawatuna bay. Many tourists and many facilities on the beach. The hotel is very nice and nicely decorated. Room is really good with all facilities for a relaxation. Just few steps to the beach. On the beach restaurant is with good DJ music at night. Excellent fresh seafood display, everyday as your choice. You must taste the delicious food there. Much appreciate all the staff doing their job with smile at a very rush and busy time too. I show they are happy and enjoy their job when the restaurant is over crowed without fear and fed up. Great cocktails in the area. Nice beach, nice people, nice place, nice food. What else you need….i had a great time there.

We (family of 2 adults and 2 young children) stayed at Thaproban Beach House for two nights in early April. We stayed in the penthouse (room 11), which enjoys that spectacular view you see in all the marketing photos.

Check in - Excellent, Nuwani was extremely friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. The entire check in process was completed in just a few minutes and we enjoyed a welcome drink before being escorted to our room.

Room - Nicely decorated, the balcony and the view are beautiful. Bear in mind the balcony is shared with the room next door (there is a small screen partially dividing the balcony space). The AC worked well and the beds were comfortable. I must point out that the stairs up to the second bedroom are extremely steep and narrow. Not so much a problem on the way up, but walking down them is treacherous and you find yourself having to side step. This isn’t ideal when carrying a toddler and we certainly didn’t allow the kids to tackle the stairs by themselves.

The bathroom was well equipped but there was quite a bit of mould in the shower. All in all though, a lovely room.

Breakfast - The breakfast each day was lovely and offered a good variety. Note that if you wish to order Sri Lankan breakfast you need to place the order the night before.

Restaurant - We enjoyed quite a few meals in the restaurant and all were excellent. While the menu isn’t huge, the food is excellent and well priced. Nice cocktails too!

Location - Well located right on Unawatuna Beach. If you choose not to eat at the hotel, there are loads of restaurants and bars just steps away.

Beach - It is worth noting that the water at Unawatuna can be quite challenging, with a strong current. We saw a number of people pulled under at various times. It meant that we weren’t able to swim in the water with our kids, which was disappointing. The sand is also very rough as a result of the dredging which was conducted in recent years. It makes it quite uncomfortable underfoot and it is difficult to get a good footing when in the water as the sand sinks beneath you. This is such a shame as it diminishes what I understand was once a beautiful swimming beach.

Staff - It’s the staff at Thaproban that really make this place special. On the first day they knew both our children by name and all made a point of greeting them, high fiving them etc. whenever they saw them. Our five year old son became quite the local celebrity! The service provided by the staff was truly excellent.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Thaproban Beach House and would definitely recommend the hotel. However I wouldn’t return to Unawatuna if my intention was to swim in the ocean. There are much better beaches in the vicinity of Unawatuna.

Room Tip: #11 (penthouse) is great but not for anyone who might have trouble climbing the stairs. Not an issue...

I spend the evening here during Singalese New Year. The kitchen was unfortunately closed the time we arrived, but according to the Singalese tradition they offered us free New Year-food. It was very delicious: the milkrice, kalu dodol (it's like a pudding made of riceflour), kokki's. We left the place full and satisfied. The place itself is pretty: white spacious architecture with a lot of food and a sunterrace with a great seaview.

After months of searching for a place to undergo Panchakarma, I found Peacock Ayurveda Garden. I was very excited about going to the resort and had high expectations - all of which were met! Every part of the stay was truly wonderful and I feel lucky to have spent three weeks here. From the restorative morning yoga and in-depth doctors consultations to the fantastic therapists and delicious meals, I left an entirely satisfied customer. The resort is very comfortable with clean, spacious rooms, a lovely swimming pool and free wifi. There is ample space to relax with herbal tea and take in the beautiful Sri Lankan flora and fauna that take shelter in the garden. I left feeling happier, healthier and wondering when I will return!

Near the lake. 2 minutes walk from the beach. Three clean pools available.

The rooms by the ocean are the oldest. New rooms are placed by the river.

Beds and pillows are really comfortable.

Breakfast buffet has everything you need.

If you travel with children, I would definitely recommend to stay at this hotel with clean pools, as the waves by the ocean can be quite rough - especially for children, but also for adults.

It's difficult to summarise this amazing hotel, it's staff and the Rock Villa experience. The hotel itself has 4 rooms and 1 suite and from the moment you arrive the service is simply somethings else from the iced lolly and huge smiles on arrival, to the anytime you want breakfast, lunch or dinner. Drinks, teas or coffees are served in the lanai or poolside or even taken down to the beach for you - nothing is any trouble. The beach is at the end of the garden and a further leisurely 50m walk takes you through the mangroves to the private beach. The Villa provides loungers at the beach for you and will make up cool bags as well if you want. G&T's at sunset. Even poolside at the Villa you can listen to the waves on the beach - just perfect. There's even security at the beach just to keep your valuables safe when you are in the sea.

The buildings have been renovated to a high standard throughout, and are tastefully furnished. Rooms 1 and 4 both have private porch areas as does the suite. A/C in the rooms is first class.

The whole area is spotlessly clean. Lovely crisp white sheets and soft towels etc in your room, ample pool loungers and a lovely poolside area, and beautifully maintained gardens. We couldn't fault it.

Then there's the food.

You would think that in a small facility catering for 12 or so guests that the food might be average or limited, in fact the food is exceptional.

Whether it's the seafood platters and lobsters, or if you are lucky enough to share a BBQ it's all first class. The choice off the main menus for lunch and dinner will offer something for everyone and all meals are prepared and presented to a very high standard - again nothing is a problem even coping with multiple food allergies so our daughter didn't even recognise she had slightly different food.

We were fortunate enough to be here during Sri Lankan New Year and share a traditional New Year breakfast with the hotel staff - they had gone out of their way to include the guests and make the whole experience thoroughly memorable.

The Taru group take customer service very seriously when we were there for 3 nights a lady from H/O was down from Colombo checking standards, tasting food speaking to guests to make sure everything was as it should be be and told us that all the Taru sites get a regular visit. They are very proud of their reputation, and it's thoroughly well deserved.

It may be a little more expensive than many beach hotels in Bentota but worth every penny. Thank you for memorable few days.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great, if you want a private porch opt for either room 1 or 4.

My husband, I and our two teenage boys stayed here for one night before heading to Cinnamon Grand. We wished we had stayed longer! A lovely villa in gorgeous grounds. It was so quiet, you wouldn't believe you were in the middle of bustling Colombo!.We were greeted by a wonderful member of staff whose name i didn't catch-my apologies! The rooms were fabulous, spacious and clean.Fantastic bathroom in room 3 with the splash pool right outside the window. Simple breakfast of juice, eggs and fruit and choice of pancakes for the boys. We were recommended a fabulous restaurant by staff called Kaema Sultra and I highly recommend you go.I wouldn't hesitate to come back and stay longer on my next trip.
Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Room 3 was lovely with a huge bathroom accessed through the wardrobe!

We checked in to Kadolana Eco last evening with a booking for 2 doubles and 2 triple rooms. The disappointment was instant,

- The two double rooms were no more than a shoe box with a nice veranda in the middle that also doubled up as the Managers Office!

- One Double Room did not have an attached toilet - it was outside, across the veranda. We ignored it as part of the "eco" experience.

- When the folks in the double room asked for an additional towel for their son, the Manager very rudely responded with a "Double Rooms get only two towels" - oops, we should have brought our own towels.

- When it started raining, the two "eco rooms" with coconut leaf roofing started to leak with rain drops wetting the mattresses - an eco experience more than we had expected!

- The last straw was the discovery of a "Sri Lankan Palm Civet'' (Kalawadda in Sinhala) inside the 'eco rooms', hissing and snarling at us! The staff were lost as to what to do -at 10.30pm we were now trapped in a leaking eco rooms in the company of a wild cat!

At this point, with crying kids and anxious wives, we all decided to leave the hotel. It was then that we were confronted with Tissa, the obnoxious manager who was clearly intoxicated after an evening drink - he went on to suggest we pay the full half board rate for all 4 rooms with scant appreciation of why we were leaving his hotel at 10.45pm. After some hard negotiation we paid for 2 rooms and dinner and drove out into the the night - a disaster of a holiday.

Room Tip: Avoid the eco rooms - no AC, leaking roof and resident Civet Cat!

We stayed for two days and got upgraded to a cabana. The staff are very nice and the pool is gorgeous. Surrounded by lots of plants and flowers. The hotel is walking distance to the beach and to lots of spas, cafes and places to eat. The food at flower garden is very good, but no room service. The other downside is no WiFi in the room. Overall, it's a very good value for money.

Wow what a place. What a find. The rooms are probably the best we have ever stayed in on all our travels. The room was cleaned to a very high standard and nothing was too much bother to the guys who cleaned them. The waiting staff were superb and if you do come here we would thoroughly recommend the Sri Lankan Breakfast. The two pools were a great retreat at the end of the day and the monkeys who live in the trees add to the overall pleasure of this place. They cannot do too much to help even arranging tours and airport pickups if that is what you want. Great location 5 mins from the beach and only 15mins from Galle by tuk tuk (don't pay any more than 300 rupees). We will be certainly be telling our friends who are coming out here in December about this place.
