Nice small hotel on the beach with an infinity swimming pool. Large spacious rooms with ante area and outside dining area for each unit. Coy fish swimming in the pools around the rooms. Staff was attentive and meals were good.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Safron villa at the far end; very nice

Lunch once more at this wonderful location.
Style in abundance, service as always faultless, food exceptional.
The new additional seating area gives an added dimension of space and and overview of the surrounding area.
Always a pleasure to eat here.

Room Tip: cant go wrong

Huma Terra is an unique place, created by the French owner and his wife. It’s a real eco lodge, in the middle of nature, using solar panels, ecofriendly toilets etc.

Most of the rooms are in the trees, where they will catch some wind, so an airco isn’t necessary. There is a fan who works well, but most of the time you won’t need it. The toilet is separate and the rain-shower is in a tub. Really nice experience. The rooms are overlooking rice fields with lots of birds.

The owners are really friendly and they and their staff make very good meals. Especially the home made ice-cream, you must try it. It really nice sitting at the terrace from the restaurant, overlooking the rice-fields, enjoying the view.

There is also a nice swimming pool, also with an ecofriendly cleaning system, so everything is in balance with nature at this beautiful spot.

Our conclusion: We highly recommend this eco lodge

Room Tip: Take a treehouse, you have great views and some cool wind.

My friend and I visited Unawatuna for a week this spring break. In context, Thambapanni Retreat has a wonderful feel and atmosphere. Absolutely stunning building and swimming pool with cute small touches like flowers in the ponds etc. Sufficient fresh breakfasts with very fresh, clean and tasty food served at the restaurant by a friendly (cricket loving :) chef. Very neat and clean with the necessary facilities in the deluxe room. A quick walk to the beach. The most friendly and sincere staff members that made our stay extra special. Will definitely return! A special shout out to Laksman the most friendly and interesting caretaker, Ashane the attentive waiter and Siri the GM :) Regards, M+M

Room Tip: Tower rooms have amazing views, many stairs though. Rooms overlooking the pool would be best.

We went here for the day and it was free entry. Simply get a drink and/or food (it is good!!) and enjoy sunbeds, pool and a lazy day. This place is not walking distance to the beach. I would suggest to not bring kids here since there is no 'play' area and it is obviously a place to relax. Free wifi and excellent service (you also get towels) but quite high prices for food and drinks compared to other places in Ahangama.

After a hectic ten days exploring the history and nature of Sri Lanka, Maya was a haven of tranquillity. Our room (which they allowed us to choose on arrival) was beautifully designed, light and airy while being cool and private, and it’s a wonderful property to relax in the shade watching the bird life (notably the 50 or so peacocks who noiselessly wander across the fields behind the property at dusk) and swimming in the pool. The food is great, the best breakfast we had in Sri Lanka, and the staff incredibly helpful.

Having stayed here last week for 5 nights..find below some of the pros and more importantly the cons of Tisara villas!

Pros:
Pleasant surroundings
Room / breakfast service boys - helpful and attentive

Cons:
As the pictures show, little care is taken by the management in the maintenance of the villas. Given the problems with mosquitos, providing nets with holes in really is going too far. Surely they can replace them!!

Generally very little has been done over the years which is now very evident both in the decor, furnishings (2x pool loungers broke during our stay)

They should also take care at breakfast if you have young children. The hot water urn for DOT coffee (not seen for years) was just at touching height for a 2 year old..

Would also echo earlier reviews that the service boys are very good but the management disinterested, however very quick to show where the tip Box was....!!

As I say, proceed with caution..

We went to Sri Lanka for my sisters wedding and stayed in the 2 bedroom villa overlooking the pool at Beach Grove Villas. The villa was great and Asoka, the owner, plus all the other staff were so helpful, during our stay. Thanks so much for everything, if we are ever back in Sri Lanka we will be staying here.

After spending a week travelling around Sri Lanka we were fortunate enough to be able to stay at Shalini Villa for 10 nights. And they were the most fantastic 10 nights!

We felt like royalty in tropical surroundings, the villa is stunning and the staff are absolutely brilliant. Kamindika made sure we had everything we needed, (including a regular supply of beer for the boys) kept the place spotless and even arranged currency exchange and tuktuks for us every time we went out anywhere. Tilak cooked us the most amazing food, some of the best we've ever had, and he even taught us how to make some of the dishes. Every morning he would ask what we would like to have for lunch and dinner and then go off into the village to buy all of the local fresh ingredients.

The garden and pool are superb, we spent the majority of our time in and around the garden watching all the amazing wildlife popping by for a visit. For any ornithologists, the bird life is fantastic, we were able to sit on the verandah watching flycatchers, kingfishers, woodpeckers, bulbuls and all sorts of other birds dropping by for a dip in the pool. Not to mention the monkeys, mongoose and monitor lizard that all pop in throughout the day. 5pm was our favourite time, this was when the garden really came to life so no matter what we were doing we always made sure we were back in time to see the spectacle!

If I were to sum it up in just one word - magical. Don't hesitate to book this place, but please leave a space in the diary so we can go back!

Thank you to Alison for letting us stay, and for making the booking process so easy and answering all of our questions so promptly. We can't wait to return.

My fiancee and I stayed at Thaproban Beach House for 4 nights in March 2016. It is a lovely hotel - really welcoming and helpful staff, our sea view room was lovely, and the food in the restaurant was absolutely great - would definitely recommend staying here and order the typical 'rice and curry' dish on the menu - you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: sea view room - great view

We stayed here for 5 nights in March and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Flower Garden. The rooms were cleaned thoroughly every day and the staff were very friendly and attentive nothing was to much trouble, thank you to Sassie for arranging our transport and being patient with our booking confusion. Would definitely recommend if staying in Unawatuna.
