Dear Ken and Leslie, we can't thank you enough for all of your help as our group of 5 adults and 4 young children planned our holiday at your home. You were always so quick to respond and thorough in answering any questions which helped us immensely. Your staff including the lovely Sonali and her husband prepared delicious meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, helped arrange daily transportation and tours, called tuk tuks for our daily trips to the stunning beach on the Indian Ocean just 10 minutes from your home. The gardener was so sweet to point out any lizards, birds and monkeys on the property and we all enjoyed the daily wildlife sightings! Your incredible home and divine meals, recommended excursions (especially the boat trip which picked up our group at your private dock) and the outings in the tuk tuk to the beach nearby made our holiday so memorable. Of course the children miss your gorgeous pool which they were in from sunrise to sunset. We can't recommend your home enough for an amazing Sri Lankan holiday and thank you and the Lakeview Villa team again for everything you did to make our stay so special! Warmest regards, The Shier family

Nice guesthouse, beautiful garden, very friendly staff, tasty food, decent room, clean, excellent hot water, wifi a bit slow but working, was enjoyable to sit in the terrace outside the room. The restaurant on top floor had nice sea view.
The only minus was the location, the guesthouse is really close to the ocean, but that is not a good part of the unawatuna beach: no people, no life, no facilities, dirty. You have to walk 10 min across the beach to get to the beautiful part.
Rather than that it was a very pleasant stay, the staff did everything possible to make it even better.

Many positives and a few negatives to talk about.

We arrived later than expected (almost midnight) and all the staff were asleep by that time; mainly because the check in building seemed like an old house that was turned into a guest house. We booked the 3 bedroom villa with a private pool which looked amazing! BUT because we were late and did't give them any notice, they had given it to another group that had checked in earlier. We weren't too happy about it but they moved us to the newer buildings that had amazing rooms, each with its very own private pool.

The following morning we had breakfast overlooking the beautiful Tangalle beach in an old building which suited the area. Upon speaking to the manager after breakfast, he tried to switch us back to the 3 bedroom villa but couldn't because that group had left the property for the day. He then upgraded us to the newest building for the same rate and gave us a whole floor to ourselves. The private pool there was much bigger and luckily for us non of the other guests were there. A special mention to 'Asanga' who made sure that we had a great time with enough food and drinks to keep us going! Great guy and very hospitable! He even offered to have some milk rice and curry made at his home for us since the hotel wasn't serving that for breakfast.

Overall I would say the place is great and the staff are very accommodating. Its a great place for families, big/small groups and even couples to visit. We will visit again

Room Tip: Villas with private pool are great for couples

The Groove Beach Villas has some great rooms. We had one with one large bed and one single person bed. The interior is very nice and the rooms are really big. Off course there is a minibar, TV good airco and writing desk.

The bathroom is also very big, it’s more a ballroom. It has a good rain shower an also everything you need, including shampoos. Everything, room and bathroom are exceptional clean.

Staff, especially the manager and the cook are very skilled and friendly. Swimming pool is good and the area is nice, with lots of birds. Located on walking distance from the beach this is a good location.

For us there was only one thing we didn’t like that much. There is a lot of building activity in the area. But this will be finished in two months or so. But the great rice and curry and everything this villas offer makes it a good choice to stay.

Our opinion: Recommend. When the building activities are finished: Highly recommended!

Room Tip: The rooms next to the managers office are very good.

Our stay at Shalini offered the perfect blend of privacy and service. Kamindika was thoughtful and helpful, and looked after us well in a caring and light hearted manner. Tilla the cook fulfilled our culinary requests and made 'eating in' a highlight throughout our stay. The food was always freshly prepared, healthy and delicious, in fact the meals were much better than what was being offered at most of the local restaurants. The main bedroom was by the pool and garden, the villa spacious, tastefully designed with lots of areas to sit and relax depending on your mood.
We spent most of our time in the garden, enjoying the monkeys, butterflies and furry animals but our favourite were the exotic birds that visited the pool for a late afternoon dip.
The staff were inconspicuous yet manage to be present when needed. Overall, Shalini allows for peace, harmony and tranquility. We hope to return someday.
Best wishes and much good health to you all. Vincent and Nigel, Birmingham, England.

We spent nine nights at the Flower Garden and can honestly say that it was a really great experience. We stayed in one of the cabanas and was surrounded by beautiful gardens and amazing wildlife which included monkeys which were kept in check by the two hotel dogs.
There are two great pools again set in a wonderful landscaped garden and the hotel provides towels for both the pool and the beach, which is only a short walk away but if feeling lazy a Tuk Tuk is always on hand.
We started each day with the best breakfast ever, fresh fruit, pancakes, eggs etc.
We tried several local restaurants for our evening meal which there are plenty of but had many of our meals at the Flower Garden as the food was really good quality. The staff were really attentive and nothing was too much trouble.
Would definitely recommend and would definitely use this hotel when in Sri Lanka. Also a big big thank you for making my husband's special birthday even more special.

Room Tip: Cabanas are exceptional with your own special outside space

After 10 days in Sri Lanka, we felt this was the best place we had stayed. Just off the beaten track, Beach Grove Villas is walking distance from the beach itself - or just 2 minutes by tuk tuk which the staff will happily arrange for you. The rooms were big, beautiful and spacious - with good AC but temperamental wifi. The pool really makes this place. The breakfast was good but lacked the traditional dishes we has come to enjoy in other hotels. Dexter the guard dog is there to make sure you're safe too! We would definitely return and recommends friends - for the high standards, the price was extremely reasonable.

Our family loved our two day stay at The Sun House. The house is a beautiful example of colonial architecture with gorgeous antique furnishings throughout. The food was wonderful, the rooms are gorgeous with wonderful attention to detail. The staff was attentive, friendly and very helpful. Staying at the Sun House was a perfect way to begin our Sri Lankan vacation.

If I could give KK more than a 5 star rating I would!

The hotel is located about a 30 minute tuktuk ride from downtown Galle and the historic fort. It is nestled into the hillside of a quiet village, offering territorial views of the lake below. Travelers could choose to stay in accommodations in Fort Galle, but we found that area to be way too frenetic and noisy for a relaxing vacation. KK is a place to relax.

KK's premises offer guests a relaxing experience of staying within immaculately maintained buildings and gardens. That said, its not sterile, but serene. Even the house dogs add to the ambience of the place - relaxed and occasionally getting up and walking over to guests to be pet.

The hotel offers first rate traditional Sri Lankan and western meals. Most days we opted for the Sri Lankan savory breakfasts and dinners. If a guest is so inclined, with prior arrangements guests can see a cooking demonstration from the chef. We did, and took copious notes for use at home. Western or Sri Lankan, all the meals were top notch. Eating them outdoors overlooking the valley below is part of the experience. The fixed price 3-course dinners are of great quality and value. Wine was reasonably priced, I.e. No price gouging as I often find in popular restaurants.

The rooms are very comfortable, well appointed, and immaculate. Housekeeping does a great job checking the rooms at least twice a day.

Hotel staff are incredibly professional, informative, and friendly. We had several questions during the reservation process, and hotel staff answered those questions and provided advice, including the many options of getting from Colombo and the hotel.

What really struck me was the sincerity of all staff. They are really glad to have guests, and go out of their way to ensure an enjoyable stay. Not stuffy. No ulterior motives. Always engaging. Hotel staff are all great at their jobs, and this extends throughout the entire team: owner, waiters, management, reservations, security staff, housekeeping, etc. service was always offers with a smile and polite questions asking if it was satisfactory and if anything could be changed for improvement. (My answer was always no.) The hotel also will recommend and arrange activities on request: to Fort Galle, a local tea plantation, bike rides, etc. The hotel arranged our day trip to the wild life refuge up north, making all arrangements including transport, take away breakfast, entrance fees, and safari jeep. I would highly recommend doing this during your stay.

Another admirable feature of the hotel is its commitment to the local village. The hotel supports the local transportation drivers, farmers, small businesses, etc. not only does this demonstrate social consciousness, but it also reinforces a visitor's experience of Sri Lanka. There must be a great deal of shared respect because everyone associated with the hotel - everyone - has a warm welcoming smile and demeanor.

Lastly, our stay was for 5 nights. We were concerned is may be too long but I would recommend at least five nights if this were a first trip to Sri Lanka.

Room Tip: They're all unique. They're all detached bungalows and quiet. Check out the hotel web site...

We stayed at another beach house, but came to Thaproban most evenings for our dinner. The food was great and the staff generally very friendly. We would like to send a special "Thank You" to the waiter Indu, who took really good care of us. He catered to our every need, and made sure my wife had safe allergy friendly meals. He was one of the main reasons we kept coming back.

We stayed at the Villa--a short walk from the hotel-- that is owned by the owner of Drifters. It was great for our family of 5 (3 children 11, 8, 5 and 2 adults). The booking process was very easy. We called via Skype and spoke with the owner. His English was excellent. The owner and his family were very helpful the entire time we were there. He organized our roundtrip transfer from Colombo for a very reasonable rate and the van that picked us up was great and had air con. He also helped us to arrange a quick trip to Galle via the train. I would highly recommend the quick train trip as it is a great experience. Our children loved it.

The villa was beautiful and had all the needed amenities + air con--which was a must for us. The best part is that his family is in the house downstairs and so anything we needed at anytime was no problem. His whole family were very helpful and they spoke excellent English. We ate regularly at the hotel restaurant and we loved the food and the service was fantastic. The pool was clean and great for when we did not want to spend all day in the ocean. There is no internet/tv at the villa. This was actually great and allowed us to "unplug" the kids for a bit. There is internet at the hotel/pool.

Everything was extremely clean and well kept in the villa. You will need to bring shampoo and soap, but this is common for any apartment rentals. Everything you may need can be found right near the hotel. We had laundry done across the street and it was quite reasonable. There was a washing machine in the villa but we did not use it.

You can buy sunscreen at the shops next to the hotel as well. The only two things we were glad we brought were aloe vera and bug spray. Both a must and not readily available where we looked. We would definitely recommend this hotel/restaurant/villa to any of our friends and we would return if we come back to Sri Lanka.

Room Tip: Families/groups might feel more comfortable in one of his villas although it would depend on your fa...
