Lovely seaside retreat
Ben6656 [TA], ,

A wonderful hotel, we stayed in the junior suite which was great. The hotel is about 150m from the sea but the walk is very pleasant and gives you a sanctuary from the sand and noise.

The staff were exceptionally diligent and helpful, delicious breakfasts every morning and they even sorted our laundry out for us (20+ items for less than £5). The hotel is great but the service provided by the staff makes it exceptional.

Peaceful, intimate villa
neiljm [TA], , Lancashire, United Kingdom

My wife and I have recently returned from a 9 night stay at Villa Tara and totally enjoyed the experience. The villa is 2 separate houses, either side of the pool in a quiet and pretty garden. We stayed in the upstairs master suite, which was really well equipped and very spacious. Nice new big fridge/freezer, fully working kitchen, new a/c unit, flat screen (which we never used). Lovely 4 poster bed, with very good quality linen & great bath towels. Pool and beach towels are also provided. If you haven`t stayed somewhere like this previously it may take some getting used to, but not in a negative way. The noise of the animals is constant, the many different types of birds, squirrels etc. start at daybreak and continue into the evening. The outside shower gives a welcome break from the humidity, it is very private with a 7 feet wall and no way to see in from outside. The villa is intimate, which is a great way to get the know the staff and if you`re lucky enough to be there when he`s at home, the owner Klaus. There are 2-3 guys who are there to prepare your breakfast and are then around the villa throughout the day, 2 ladies who clean and change the linen, all of whom really pay attention and genuinely care.
The villa arranged our transport from Colombo airport in a private car which takes around 2 hours, it`s mainly highway so the trip isn`t too difficult. They serve a huge and varied breakfast on the terrace; Eggs to your liking, Fruit platter, Fresh fruit smoothie, Toast, Yoghurt, delicious Ceylon tea or coffee. They will serve water, tea, coffee and superb coconuts throughout the day on request. We were lucky enough to have a meal cooked by one of the guys and ate in with Klaus and some other guests one evening, we supplied our own alcohol and had a great night! The villa has a tuc-tuc which is an easy way to get around and very inexpensive, around 200 rupees to south beach. If the tuc tuc isn`t there, just ask one of the villa guys to call one, they are everywhere and normally arrive within a couple of minutes. There is a good supermarket within a 5 minute tuc-tuc ride to get your drinks and snacks etc, the booze isn`t expensive. We found perfectly good NZ Sauvignon Blanc for 1350 rupees (expect to pay 2.5 times this price in a restaurant, but still not overly expensive), the local Arrack is worth a go, like a sweet brands and good with ice or cola.
This is a very well run villa, really quiet and peaceful with people who care about your experience and an owner who knows how to treat both his customers and his staff.

Too expensive for what it is
AlbaAN [TA], , Madrid

The place is fine but too expensive for what it is. Rooms are fine and clean. Brakfast average. The staff is not very good. Our room was close to the reception, some new guest arrived at 1am and worked us up, we slept really bad. I think it is too expensive for what it is

Beautiful setting
J and C M [TA], ,

Villa Tara is set in beautiful gardens and the rooms are lovely. We stayed over Christmas and were very happy here (family of 4, two children under 3).
Rooms were a great size and the beds comfortable. Bathroom was lovely. The huge balcony was big enough for the kids to play on and for us to sit out on in the evening while they slept.
Breakfast was good - best coffee we had on our 2 week trip.

A beautiful little pearl in Hikkaduwa
AneHK [TA], , Oslo, Norway

This villa is nice and clean. We booked the "double room" for five nights and it was really comfy. The breakfast was delicious, and the service was great. The staff was not to fussy, but smiling, present and wanted to do their best to make us happy. The manager also drove us to restaurants and other facilities. It is only one thing that could have been improved; the wifi-connection in the pool area... The villa is located a few minutes walk from the main road, but still close to the beach and the main fasilities in Hikkaduwa. We will definitely recommend this place!

Room Tip: Silent, clean, great service.

Just perfect!
ShiromiL [TA], ,

The property is a short walk from the beach so, very peaceful. The limited number of rooms gives you the feeling of being the only people around. Pool was spotless and we just spent hours lazing around, without leaving to go down to the beach. It's a perfect place to relax.
Breakfast was delicious and well-presented, laid out on our own terrace. Lovely!
The service was excellent. All the guys were helpful and hospitable, without being overly in-your-face.

Spoil yourself.

Ok, so this is one of those places that are almost unreal. When the door opens and you see the courtyard, the pool and the layout you do feel very privileged indeed. The smooth shadows dancing, the birds singing, and the pool glittering. Yeah, this is a good place to stay, to relax and to confirm that you have a good life. Excellent rooms, excellent service, excellent everything. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: The Junior suites are great!

Nice and quiet place
Djuri J [TA], , Stockholm County, Sweden

Nice place with friendly staff. It's a short walk from the main road, which is nice because it's quiet and relaxing yet close to everything. There's a decent pool, the breakfast is excellent and it feels very safe. The rooms are very nice and clean.

Потрясающая вилла. Советуем.
Natella K [TA], ,

Wonderful villa a short walk from the beach
macsbee [TA], , London, United Kingdom

We spent a wonderful night staying at Villa Tara, a short walk down a side road off the main road from the beach at Hikkaduwa. The service was exceptional from all the staff there. We stayed in a mezzanine room that was really well cooled with AC and a terrace to look out over the pool. The pool was such a treat, absolutely spotless and lovely for a refreshing night swim.
