The Tropical Beach House is a true beachfront property superbly located right on the beach at Thiranagama, just south of the centre of the popular Sri Lankan resort of Hikkaduwa, right in the middle of the largest and most beautiful bay in the South West of Sri Lanka. The Tropical Beach House at Hikkaduwa provides you with a very comfortable base from where you can enjoy everything that the area has to offer, such as surfing, diving, snorkelling, fishing or just basking on the beach in Sri Lankan sunshine.
The Tropical Beach House can accommodate a party of up to 8 people in 4 bedrooms (with at least 3 couples). We provide bed linen and towels and can supply a cot, as well, if necessary. WiFi internet access is available throughout the beach house complex.
The ground floor of the Tropical Beach House has 2 air-conditioned en-suite bedrooms - one king-size double and one with twin beds - a dining room and a fully-appointed kitchen. In front of the beach house is a private beachfront garden, a very large shaded veranda and an outdoor plunge pool for when you fancy a cooling break from the tropical heat.
The whole upper floor of the Tropical Beach House is a self-contained studio apartment featuring beautiful direct ocean views through wide sliding glass doors, which lead out onto a large shaded balcony. It comes complete with air-conditioning, a fully-equipped kitchen, dining table, king-size 4-poster bed, washing machine and an en-suite bathroom with hot-water shower.
The Cabana in the tropical side garden is an air-conditioned bungalow and comes complete with a fully equipped kitchen area, an en-suite bathroom with a hot-water shower and a separate shaded veranda.
I stayed there for 2 weeks several years ago. Mornings consisted of walking down the garden path, coffee mug in hand and then just plonking your bum down on the beautiful and mostly desertd tropical beach that was at the end of the garden. The local dog population were great in that they followed us around while on the beach and the few hawkers that tried to approach us were quickly ran off, an impromptu (but flea ridden) security detail. If you want relaxation but with the option of a busy enough local town a short (but interesting) tuk-tuk ride away then this is the place. There are beautiful lakes, inlets and jungle nearby for day tours, the house keepers were great for arranging local guides and tours. Very helpful all round. Breakfast and dinnercan be ordered from the cafe acros the road and delivered to you but just dont wait until you're hungry to order as the pace is very slow.
The sound of the surf at night and first thing in the morning was so relaxing, great place.
We stayed in the new Honeymoon Apartment of the Tropical Beach House for our honeymooon. We had such a great time. It was well appointed, clean, and spacious with a fantastic balcony (where we spent most of our time). We were well aware before we arrived that we were going to be visiting at the start of the monsoon (arrived 26th April), and sure enough we got a lot of rain, several storms, but it was of always warm of course. We've got great memories of sipping gin and tonics on the blacony with a storm kicking off and listening to the waves crashing. Fantastic.
Mahinda who manages the place is a top man and sorted out our excursions and made sure we had everything we needed. His housekeeper was a great lad as well; they run the place with unintrusive quiet efficiency, just what you want!
One night we asked for a seafood BBQ to be prepared and my wife said it was her favourite meal of the honeymoon. We both loved it there, we'd go back in a flash!
Stayed there for 3 days in March - it was just perfect. Right on the beach. The staff were excellent. The location (short walk along the beach to all the restaurants/bars) was ideal. Overall, it was well worth the money. We took the transfer offered by Mahinda and it proved to be very good value and totally hassle-free.
We had rented the house and the cabana for three weeks and had a fantastic time. It's right on the beach with beautiful waves and water.
it's in a nice and quiet spot a short walk down from busier part of town with restaurants and bars so it's a perfect location with the best of both worlds.
The cleaning is good, the staff is excellent and very nice and helpful.
We liked Hikkaduwa, it's a busier and more noisy city than for example Unawatuna and Mirisa further south. But it's charming in its tuk-tuk runing up and down the street kind of way. People are nice and friendly. We had no problems with sand flies at all as a former reviewer has written, also we didn't feel bothered with traffic noise. Yes you can hear cars and tuk-tuks from one of the bedrooms but nothing that's anoying.
My friends and I had an amazing vacation at the Tropical Beach House in Hikkaduwa! We rented both the house and the cabana and it was an extremely comfortable stay for us all. Having the Tropical Beach House as our base made our holiday so much more enjoyable then staying in a hotel or resort. We were greeted at the house by Mahinda, a kind man who cares for the property, he showed us around gave us great advice and asked us how often we wanted to property cleaned. He and his wife were very polite and friendly and always made sure we had everything we needed. We also inquired into having a bbq, the next day he and his wife organized the whole thing - what a feast it was! The fish and prawns were honestly the best I’ve ever had! We highly recommend having a bbq! The nice thing about the beach house was that we felt very safe, security came like clockwork every night to check on the place. The Tropical Beach House is a very short tuk tuk ride away from restaurants and shops and we really enjoyed that short distance as it made it quiet and peaceful. The air-conditioned rooms made it a comfortable stay and the showers were great! My friends and I had a holiday we’ll never forget and it had a lot to do with having such a comfortable space to call our own for the week. If you are coming to Hikkaduwa for a beachy, relaxing, comfortable and fun holiday you MUST stay here! Have a Lion (or two) for me!
We, a family with boys who loves surfing, were lucky enough to stay in The Tropical Beach House for 3 weeks over Christmas and New Year. The house is set on a quiet stretch of the beach yet only a 10 minute walk from small resorts, restaurants and surfboard rental. The boys would walk down the beach to go surfing or we would go for a quick tuc-tuc ride to town. The house is well kept with all the modern comforts you need for an enjoyable and relaxing stay. I would recommend it to everyone as we absolutely loved every minute of our stay there. BR
I have stayed at the Tropical Beach House on more than one occasion and have always had a fantastic time. The property is extremely comfortable and is equipped with everything you may need for a long or short stay. It is located in a small local Sri Lankan village on the edge of the main resort of Hikkaduwa - this gives it a more welcoming and relaxing feel rather than being in a guesthouse on the main drag whilst still being close enough to the centre of the action (5 minutes in a 3-wheel which can be flagged down practically everywhere). The locals are very friendly and you will not need to look far for a new friend or any advice or help. Mahinda & Chintaka will go out of their way to ensure you have everything you want and are on hand to offer information about the local area and Sri Lanka in general. They look after the house and adjoining cabana as if it were their own.
All in all a lovely place for a holiday - right on the beach in lush tropical surroundings - what more could you possibly want??
I've stayed here and thought it was kept very clean and tidy, the local team (Mahinda and Chintika) were fantastic and always very helpful when I needed them. It's full of all mod-cons so you have everything you need.
The location is perfect for Hikkaduwa, far enough anyway from the main hub of activity to be peaceful, but close enough for a short walk along the beach to enjoy the restaurants, bars, clubs, surf hire, diving trips etc. when required. Getting a Tuk-Tuk back after a few drinks was very easy and a good price too! ;-)
There is plenty to enjoy if you fancy lying out under the shade of the veranda and reading a good book, or enjoying the plunge pool on a scorching hot day. There is plenty of room to have a good game of badminton in the garden if your feeling energetic. The evenings are perfect too, sipping cool drinks, listening to music, playing cards and having a laugh among friends. Listening to the Indian ocean against the shore as you sit in candle light and fall asleep.
I am a frequent visiter to Sri Lanka and was really looking forward to renting a house on the beach. First, a few things to consider:
The Tropical Beach House is expensive, and small for what you pay for.
It is close to the road so you get a lot of traffic noise.
The house isn't well kept and needs repairs.
The staff doesn't do a good thorough cleaning, and often needed to be asked to come to clean.
The beach near the beach house is infested with sand fleas! Which are very annoying.
My family and I were lucky enough to stay for two weeks at the Tropical Beach House in September 2005, the facilities and location are superb.
The staff who run the whole setup from our driver Lal to Chintaka the housekeeper and Mahinda the manager were extremely helpful and were kind enough to invite all of us to their house on our final evening for a wonderful meal.
It is located in a quiet part of the village but is only a short tuk-tuk trip from the centre of the action (about $1 each way).
The ability to walk directly from the garden onto the incredible beach is fantastic and we were lucky enough to help over thirty turtles get to the sea from their hatching place.
This really is one of the few places I have visited which will appeal to all age groups and types of traveller.
