Proceed with caution...
Jefferys... [TA], ,

Having stayed here last week for 5 nights..find below some of the pros and more importantly the cons of Tisara villas!

Pros:
Pleasant surroundings
Room / breakfast service boys - helpful and attentive

Cons:
As the pictures show, little care is taken by the management in the maintenance of the villas. Given the problems with mosquitos, providing nets with holes in really is going too far. Surely they can replace them!!

Generally very little has been done over the years which is now very evident both in the decor, furnishings (2x pool loungers broke during our stay)

They should also take care at breakfast if you have young children. The hot water urn for DOT coffee (not seen for years) was just at touching height for a 2 year old..

Would also echo earlier reviews that the service boys are very good but the management disinterested, however very quick to show where the tip Box was....!!

As I say, proceed with caution..

Great place to stay in Koggala

We stayed at Tisara Villas for 10 days in November. We were a couple and we had a whole 2 bedroom villa four ourselves, which was amazing. Each villa has also nice living room, kitchen, 2 bathrooms and a little garden.
We have read about lots of mosquitos - that is true. But- you have many mosquito smoke repellers prepared and if you also bring some spray, it is quite ok I think. The resort is situated near a huge lake, in a big jungle like garden, sou you can expect mosquitos being there. The hotel garden is really beautiful, you can see monkeys jumping in the trees, iguanas walking by, cute squirrels and so on. There is a nice swimming pool in the centre of the resort.
Concerning the food, that is something the resort needs to work on. Breakfast ( being served by the pool) consist of toast bread, some butter and jelly, eggs and sometimes some fruit... so the choice is kinda poor. The dinner - you always preorder in the afternoon and you can have it served by the pool or brought to you room. I must say that the food wasn't great either.. so we rather went to local restaurants ( which are not many at the area, so its better to rent a motorbike and go to Unawatuna, Galle etc).
The staff at the hotel is very kind and helpful.
There are bikes for free at the resort so you can travel around if you don't want to drive a motorbike, because the hotel is not close to the beach.
Despite the food, we liked our stay at Tisara Villas a lot.

Pleasant villas in verdant surroundings.

These villas have 2 large bedrooms, complete with king size beds and huge outdoor bathrooms. Bedding is clean, but a bit tired. Mosquito nets could do with replacing. The living area is also very spacious, as is the kitchen (although we didn't use it much). The villa is very dark inside, that's just the style, but we ended up using a torch to see what was in the wardrobe! The surroundings are verdant, with monitor lizards skulking through the undergrowth, monkeys swinging through the trees and an array of birdlife. However, it is quite buggy and we never seemed to be able to escape the mosquitos. This isn't necessarily a criticism, but something you should be aware of - it is quite jungly.
The shared outdoor pool is nice and shady, which is good if, like us, you are travelling with very young children. Breakfast is fine: some cereal, fruit, eggs - fairly standard Sri Lanka fare. Evening meals are not so great - they haven't quite cracked this, but there are plenty of excellent places to eat in the area. The staff are very friendly, but the management comes across as a bit lazy - not much effort to help us with organising transfers etc, but quick to show us where the tips box was. Try to hook up with a tuk-tuk driver named Sunil - he is excellent and will show you around some of the local treasures (the nearby Koggala lake is beautiful) Overall, it is a very pleasant, quite sleepy little cluster of villas from which to base a holiday in Southern Sri Lanka.

Great stay as usual.

This must be our fourth or fifth time staying here and we always have a pleasing experience and are always made very welcome. The staff are pleasant and attentive and cannot do enough for you, breakfast is great by the pool and we couldn't get enough of the lovely bread !! Would highly recommend for families with kids as there is plenty to do and see inside and outside. Great place to stay.

Great location and gardens but terrible management
keith o [TA], , Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Lovely gardens and pools and a great location. Shame the villa was so dirty, with dirty bed linen and dirty rooms....maybe because we went in the low season they didn't bother to clean it before we arrived.
Food very poor and very expensive - if staying would advise to go self catering.
Could be a great spot if only they had a better manager to run it properly

Serene homely paradise

The serene setting of pool with dappled shade from the overhanging tree is idyllic.
The staff were extremely thoughtful and attentive - not only during our stay, but also afterwards (they very kindly posted back to me a small travel wallet I'd left in the villa - thank you, Tisara Villas!)

Peaceful, relaxing, friendly and clean!
JoJoJo197... [TA], , Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Tisara Villas is a peaceful place, full of charm and set in lovely gardens. The staff are friendly, the villa is clean and spacious enough for families. They are air conditioned, also with fans. The wifi is intermittent but I suspect that it is not the fault of the villas rather the local area. The only downside is that there could be more outdoor furniture, as there are just four chairs, so a big comfy sofa would make it a bit more comfy outdoors.
The breakfast is good, including a cooked breakfast and tropical fruits, juices etc. All in all a great place to stay with family as the pool is lovely too!

Stunning

The villas are just stunning. The setting is quiet and peaceful. The shady pool is just inviting. The rooms are quaint and homely. Great place to go with some friends. The BBQ was exceptional and the breakfast was good. The staff is very good.

Kick butt place to stay

I stayed at Tisara Villas for the second time in three months this January. There are 8 villas in an absolutely gorgeous garden which is like living in tropical rain forest... which I guess is exactly what it is. The villas have 2 bedrooms with all the mod-cons including A/C, ensuite baths that are partially open air. Each villa has a private garden and terrace so you can relax and be by yourself. The large pool under a huge tree is the center of activity in the place and it is such a pleasure to take a dip in the pool and watch the hundreds of birds and the occasional monkey observing us from a tree.

What is even more attractive about the villas is that they are very children friendly and the staff is very efficient and discreet. They are very friendly and go out of their way to please. There is a kitchen that serves food under the trees poolside and they do serve up pretty good dishes, especially the Sri Lanka rice and curry. Koggala is 5 minutes walk and the office will arrange for a tuk-tuk to take you to one of the resorts if you wish to spend the day at the beach. In January which is the busy season, we paid Euro 130 for a 2 bedroom villa with breakfast which I thought was a very good deal.

Tisara Villas is not for people who want nightlife and discos and bars. For that you have to go to Wijaya Beach or Unawatuna beach which is about 15 minutes away. This is the prefect place if you wish to chill out poolside with a cold beverage and read a book. I recommend staying there for a few days to recharge your batteries! I hope to go back there again soon.
