We had a total of 13 in our group for the weekend and we held the retreat in Tisara Villas, Habaraduwa, Nr Galle, which was the ideal venue. We stayed in 3 wonderfully spacious houses which accommodated 4 people in each house. Tisara has the most beautiful gardens, designed by Yvette Spowers, which were so peaceful and tranquil, the perfect place to practice our pranayam (breathing), yoga and meditation. We started early in the morning with Sadhana in the teachers villa. Looking out into the private garden. Jo led our first session with the simple “Spinal flex Series”, we had 6 complete beginners to Kundalini Yoga, so we started off gently and taught all the basics. Fiona followed after a fruit breakfast and tea with a wonderful pranayam class, in which she took us walking meditatively round the garden, and finished off with a laughing kriya. We had a lovely 3 to 4 hour break after our brunch. We ate simple healthy vegetarian Sri Lankan food and the cooks and the staff were very helpful and accommodating and the food was delicious (thank you Anura to all your staff). Later in the day we got in the van to go to Skye House to complete our day with a class on the beach. I taught the “Green Energy Set” which was wonderfully energising and heart opening. The venue again was just fabulous, we did the yoga on the veranda which is on two wide steps, to the sound of the sea roaring with the back drop of the beautiful house, with plenty of shade and cool sea breezes.

On Sunday we were awake early again at 4.30am and we drove towards Galle to the Peace Pagoda to practice our morning sadhana. This Buddhist Peace Pagoda is perched up on a cliff and overlooks Galle harbour and Bay, again another stunning location. Mercedes taught her first class to us (Ten Bodies Kriya) and did a wonderful job. We were then back to Tisara for more yoga with Jo leading us through a wonderful pranayam, which had a very powerful effect on us all! After another delicious brunch, we either slept, went on a bike ride, went for a sea swim. Our final class was by the sea again, we were reminded of the importance of alignment and finished off with a powerful Prosperity chanting Meditation right on the beach, wonderful. This is an ideal venue for a yoga retreat as it is very quiet and the energy is amazing, the staff organised the food and accomodation brillantly and we even had an inhouse masseur and reiki healer.

Kingfisher Hotel is just so stunningly gorgeous situated directly on the sand. The 4 balcony rooms in this new boutique resort are spacious, clean & cool with stunning views that even my photos are of travel magazine quality. Enjoyed watching locals & tourists surf the break while at Kingfisher's beachfront bar with tasty local brew Lion - it was always beer o'clock. Keen friendly young staff throughout and a tempting & delicious menu. There is a baja rank area 100m away to whisk you off to historic Galle Fort and the beautifully restored National Maritime Museum and Galle Fort Hotel for its delights. But at Kingfisher Hotel, nothing surpasses the evening swish of gentle waves on your doorstep. We have visited them all, but no other Asian country has given such a warm welcome and the urgent planning of a return holiday as has Sri Lanka - a beautiful country with charming people with heart and soul.

I stayed at the hotel for two days. We had a room that just been remodel and we can still smell the fresh paint. I would say the hotel is more like 80% vacant while we were there in June(not to the hotel fault - it was the low season). The staff wer very friendly. The hotel has a great garden and a lovely pool. Most of the small hotels by the beach are pretty noisy at night because of the restaurant/bar that open late into the night. If you want a hotel that right on the beach, this one is not for you. If quiet, clean, friendly staff, pool, beautiful garden, great in house restaurant with reasonable price and free interent -this hotel is a great choice.

I stayed at the hotel with a group of friends and it was eerie and weird throughout. Although it looks nice and inviting there was something that we all felt very odd.
There was a lady at the reception dressed in black who said she doesn’t stay overnight as she don’t trust the others and kept on speaking of deaths in the hotel! The owner had died sometime ago at the hotel and was not discovered for 2 days. There had been 2 mysterious deaths of staff and apparently noises were heard at night. All that had stopped after some religious activities as per the lady named Florence.
We lost our cake of soap in the first night and had no idea how that happened to date! There were no entry/exit points for any kind of animal visible to us! Hotel staff were not helpful when we reported this.
There are doors from the rooms opening to a corridor towards the hotel to which guests are not given any keys, and there are absolutely no latches for us to lock the doors from inside other than hoping for the best. I think staffs are occupying the other side of the corridor which is very unacceptable

We booked three nights here after seeing the reviews on TA, and weren't disappointed. We stayed in a Deluxe Cabana - which was clean and furnished to a Western standard (especially the bathroom). The bed was great and the cabana was spacious enough for us to spread our kit out. The small balcony at the front of the cabana was the ideal place for an aperitif before heading off for dinner.
We had one meal here which was fine - however the restaurant lacked the atmosphere of the beachside restaurants in the village with their sea views.
The location is only five minutes from the beach - close enough that it is not an issue but far enough away from everyone to get a peaceful nights sleep.

Oh my gosh, where do I even begin. Firstly, A huge thank you to Anura, who is part owner and also manages Tisara Villas. He was extremely helpful when my mum had called him to book a villa for my family. He called her back, gave her directions, details of how things would go and made preparations with the villa staff for our arrival. He was present the next day after we settled in and told us about peaceful stretches of beach that would be lovely for the kids( sort of like your own private beach, about 1km from the property) Wijeya's for the best pizza in town( N.B. it is an open air, no frills place, but the food is exceptional) and how the villas had over 40 species of birds occupy the well-maintained gardens. It was really like chatting to an old friend even though we had just met.
When you enter Tisara Villas, it is like walking into paradise. Lush gardens and peaceful surroundings greet you in welcome. You are immediately silent as you observe the ponds filled with Sri Lanka's traditional flower- the purple water lilly- and the trees filled with birds and butterflies, just flying around you. Each villa is stunningly decorated in orange and white. The beds are gorgeous and four poster with mosquito nets, the bathrooms are indoor/outdoor type with mustard walls and rustic fixtures. Each room has air conditioning, also with a rustic style decor i.e. teak doors, armoirs and end tables. A villa sleeps four but can accommodate more small children. Take plenty of mosquito repellent though. There is no t.v. and no phone. I loved this about the place. It is a complete getaway. You also have your very own garden within the villa as well as a kitchenette complete with cups, plates, fridge, cooking facilities and dishes. You can cook yourself or ask the staff to cook for you. Lunch is available as an extra, but they do include breakfast and dinner. A special thank you to Namal and Dayananda who looked after us from June 20- 22. They were wonderful, always asking what we would like to eat, and taking care of our daughter who is allergic to all kinds of food. They were so kind, always ready with a smile. Do complement them on their cooking, they deserve it. I say it again. There is no service like it anywhere in the world. Sri Lanka has the best hospitality. We will be back for sure!

This is our second trip to Sri Lanka. And with our pleasure we have stopped again in this hotel. The territory is very green and well-groomed. Rooms are big enough and very comfortable. Rooms cleaning - every day and very qualitative. Good breakfast with a wide choice of fresh fruit. Very friendly staff, always ready to help. One day we had our friend's birthday. And were very surprised to see flowers in the room, well prepared and decorated table for dinner. If sometime I go again to Sri Lanka, I will stop there again. Thank you again to Sassi and hotel staff

Wahrscheinlich findet man in ganz Unawatuna kein besseres Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis.

We stayed 5 nights in Sagara to start our 2 week trip in Sri Lanka. We were travelling with 3 teenagers who were totally speechless on arrival at the beauty o our villa, the splendor of the swimming pool. The 3 bedroom villa is furnished with taste, the chef cooks fantastic meals at a bargain price and the staff is very attentive. On our last breakfast we hardly said "ketchup" and the tomato sauce was on the table! The villas are along a lovely beach were hardly anybody goes, so you have the feeling it's yours. The size of the swimming pool means you can really swim and it is beg enough for the guests of the 3 villas to enjoy it without being on top of each other. We could not fault the place.

I was totally amazed at how beautiful this place was! It's brand spanking new, the staff are lovely beyond belief, they make a point to really get to know their guests and make sure your happy all the time. It is by far the "place to be" in regards to their restaurant, book ahead in high season or you just wont get in, and trust me you'll eat there once and never go anywhere else! The food is clean, healthy and is THE ONLY menu in all of Unawatuna that serves different styles of food, everywhere else seems to have the exact same menu where ever you go! There is also a lovely beach side bar and deck chairs, and a comfy little hut for lounging around during the day whilst enjoying the most amazing sandwiches and cocktail or what ever.
There are 4 large rooms all with hot water, mini bar, A.C, satilite TV, big private balconies, wi-fi, tea & coffee making facilities, flat screen TV's, Double beds, with the option of extra beds to add to the room.
The hotel also has massage and yoga classes, night watch security and is directly on a really nice safe swimming beach.
The helpful staff will also help you out with things like taxi's and tuk tuk's so that you don't get ripped off by anyone on the street.
Seriously I'm not kidding, this is the only place to stay if your heading to Unawatuna, it's brand new and they've really got it right!
