This place have a garden and well-kept rooms. All of our guesthouse rooms come with private bathrooms, mosquito nets, comfortable beds and also equipped with AC.

Most rooms offer ocean view and the beach is just a few steps away from this well established Unawatuna guesthouse.

Most popular is the upstairs sea view room with also an almost private rooftop terrace and early reservations are highly recommended.

The beach in front of Beach Bungalow is very safe also for kids and it can be enjoyed without any fears.

We serve western and Sri Lankan foods.

Great Location, Great Hosts, Large/CleanRooms
Simsteph [TA], ,

We stayed here for 5 nights in total. 2 nights to start off before we moved to Mirissa, but as Unawatuna is closer to Galle and the airport we decided to return for our final 3 nights of our 2 week holiday in Sri Lanka.
This place is very clean, large basic rooms with 4 poster beds to house the mozzie net with ensuite and both air con and fan. The rooms are basic however when you spend all day on the beach all we wanted is a clean room, hot water and good air con and this ticks all the boxes. Our rooms were cleaned everyday.
Location wise this is a 10 second walk and you're on the beach, many of the rooms have a lovely view of the beach however as you are set back slightly from both beach and main road it's exceptionally quiet, this would be very appealing for families.
The Guesthouse is run by a family of 4 brothers who were all very friendly & helpful, when we arrived they happily showed us two rooms to choose from which we could take our pick from. Throughout our stay they couldn't have been more helpful and attentive.
Breakfast was a Sri Lankan feast of tea, fruit, toast, eggs, any way you want. This was included in the price and we definitely didn't go hungry.
The hotel next door, the Calamander had a lovely pool and restaurant which we frequented a lot- the hotel itself was 4 times as expensive as UBB but definitely not worth the money with UBB next door.
We used the guesthouse to organise our tuk tuks into Galle Fort and also jungle beach both short journeys but well worth the trip.
If you want value for money, very close to the beach with amazing hosts this is the one.

Unawatuna Beach Bungalows, very good place to stay!
rita_nl [TA], , Amsterdam, The Netherlands

I was several time in UnaWatuna Beach Bungalows. I allways like to come back!

Rooms are clean, good breakfast in the morning. Friendly staff and family. Now there is also a small fridge in the room. Sitting on the balcony you have a great view!

The garden is allways a joy to see. All the plants nice green. This time the bougainvillea had great flowers.

With Lal, brother of Sarath, you can make nice trips. I did see many nice sites around Una Watuna with him. He can tell you a lot about it.

The beach is only 1 minute walking, so very near by.

I can recommand you to stay in UnaWatuna Beach bungalows!

Nice place to stay in one of the busiest beaches on Lanka
Tomas H [TA], ,

Unawatuna's beaches are nice but busy. So the fact that Beach Bungalow (charmingly misspelled as "Bunglow" above the entrance) is a bit secluded is a benefit. The place overlooks the public beach with Hotel Calamander (formerly UBR) sunshades and deckchairs on it and a very swimmable yet funnily narrow glass (!) pool. You have to pay for the shades. One of the reasons to stay in Unawatuna is the Karuna's Cooking Class. Also, there are tons of small snack-food places in the area - just a few steps away from the hotel. Don't forget to give yourself a treat of an ayurvedic deep tissue massage - that is if you don't mind being hurt :)

Pretty Good.

Stayed here for two or three nights in December and generally had very few complaints. The breakfast was generous, the location great for the beach, the staff were friendly and helpful, and it had a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. The only downsides were the constant power cuts (though I guess this affected most hotels in the area) and the amount of mosquitoes in the room - scores. Next time, I think I would stay closer to Galle. The tuk-tuk rides get a bit tiresome after the third of fourth time.

Great location and Service in Sri Lanka!

I learned to appreciate how attentive and responsive the owners were after spending a few days trying to get the attention of servers at restaurants and sunbeds on Unawatuma Beach! The rooms and bathrooms here are basic, but more than adequate, very clean and with terrific A/C. There were several lock-able storage areas ( closet, desk drawer, safety/security box) which was comforting. The bed was firm but comfortable, and the multi-prong/universal adaptor was a pleasant surprise.

One of the owner-brothers were always available and IMMEDIATELY and personally dealt with my requests (where'd my beach towel go? ants in the room, hair dryer, help with wifi, arranging airport transport, serving me breakfast).

Breakfast was more than adequate (eggs, toast, lots of fruit; although like other reviewers I would suggest that they stop serving something that tasted like 'Tang'; either serve fresh juice or don't serve anything ). The location is great -- not ON the beach (although apparently you can see the beach from the 2nd floor rooms), but a stone's throw away. Given the liveliness of the beachfront at night, it may be a blessing to be buffered a bit.

This is a tourist area but the beach -- a short stone's throw away-- is terrific and there are many small, family or locally-run 'bodegas' on the beach with sunbeds (free if you order drinks or food), good curry, evening fish bbq's (if you don't mind picking out bones from a whole fish), or hamburgers (Koko's) if you just need to have one. Lots of smaller restaurants and shops along the narrow dirt roads in the maze that surrounds Unawatuna Beach Bungalows. I enjoyed getting lost in spite of the heat and humidity!

The place to be !!!!!!

The hotel is run by 3 brothers who really care about their guests.

We arrived early, but they started immediatelty cleaning so we could check in 30 minutes later. The room was spotless, the bed super comfy with good matrasses en mosquitonets and their is a little fridge which was a nice surprise.

They arranged a whale watching tour at a good price.

Location is perfect, less than 100 meters from the sand.

Super friendly owners and staff!

This is a perfect place to stay! The staff is very friendly and helpful! The location is good, just meters from the beach. Lots of resturants and shops nearby. If you want something to do the staff will advice and help out all the way. Lal is a great guide and a solid tuktuk-driver, let him take you for a daytrip! The room was clean, breakfast good, we had nothing to complain about. We planned to stay for 4 nights but ended up staying for 9, we just liked the place so much! So, we highly recommed it!

Impeccably clean hotel.
BeingJoy [TA], , Brisbane, Australia

Stayed recently for two nights with family, in triple room. Impeccably clean rooms, with good quality linen, furnishings, and bathroom. Only fault was with the drainage system, as drains are so small that after showering the whole bathroom is flooded by several inches. The manager was informed, however, and I feel sure will be fixing that quickly, as the staff and service very helpful, and immediate. Windows on two sides which all open! Fans and aircon. Nets. Super comfortable beds. There is a view of the sea and Unawatuna east beach from the balcony. Even better view from the easily accessible rooftop. Don't miss that! Beautifully maintained garden area. Close to beach and many restaurants, shopping, main road. Unawatuna beach, sadly, has deteriorated hugely, such that we will not be returning there. However, if you do choose to do so, I can recommend this hotel as a good mid range choice.

Room Tip: Most rooms appear to have access to balcony and views. Quiet aircon in our room on first floor.
