I just can recommend this hotel.
PaulaHmbrg [TA], 07 April 2013, Kaarst, Germany
The staff were very very friendly and helpfull. The hotel was clean and looked pretty. It also was very quiet, not too much people there.
The rooms were cheap but very good, we payed 1500 LKR for 2 people per night, (we were there in off-season). No a/c but a fan , and a big comfortable bed. The bathroom was okay and the everything were clean, okay we had two cockroaches in our room but I think this is nothing special at Sri Lanka this could happen everywhere there.
So I still think that the hotel is very good and you walk just 3-4 minutes to the beach. You also could do yoga in the hotel , but we didn't so I don't know if it's good or not. Well at the end I just can recommend this hotel.
overbooked

My boyfriend and I had booked a standard a/c room through the web for 4 nights at this hotel. When we got there we were told there was a problem with the a/c, so to accommodate them we accepted to stay in a non a/c room, we slept so bad (too hot, no air circulating, pillow smelled like pee...) that we wanted to get a refund the next day and go elsewhere. We tried negotiating for 2 hours but unfortunately they wouldn't give us our money back. After that, we finally moved into an a/c room, which was alright. And again, we had asked for a 3 person room for our last night as a friend was coming over to meet us, I made the manager write it in his book 2 days before, I confirmed with him the night before, but again the next morning we were told the room could not be available... The major problem is that they have a poor booking system and you probably will not get what you paid for when you get there because they are often overbooked and will not give you your money back. Being there 4 days, we weren't the only ones being shifted around. You are on vacation, you don't want to spend half a day negotiating... do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.
Non

Just a small guest house with limited service, adjustable room, staffs are greedy.

We stayed in this Hotel Baby Red Fish for 8 nights (from 11 Jan 2013 till 19 Jan 2013) as we had to spent our holiday most in near sea beach. We stayed here for long as we were in a group and we need 1 big room for 4 people, they gave a room with one master bed and one single bed with air-conditioned and we paid 3500 Srilankan rupees per night. The manger was not responsible person as he had to be. There was no sufficient staffs in hotel, was only one manager and one room cleaner boy, his intensity was something bad, as he willing to have money or else from tourist. Room cleaning service is poor , even they didn't asked us to change our bed sheet after 3 night we slept , later we ask ourselves to manager, hardly he gave us few bed sheets and towel, but was smelling very bad.
moreover, Ayurvedic center inside this hotel was annoying, as they always comes at you with greedy sense and force you to do message and stuffs. Also, a man (assistant man of yoga was very bad , as he is argumentative to us as we was disagree to do yoga and message stuffs, hence he claimed falsely that we were making noise , in fact we weren't their hotel at that time for which the man claiming for, he is just very bad man) but, Yoga doctor was so loyal & nice person.
Don't do yoga with that Yoga assistant, a thin guy , he is very bad manner person.
Basic.

We stayed here over New Year 2012/3 - basically because there was nowhere else available. For the price we paid we should have expected something of a very reasonable standard ....the reality was quite different! This place is VERY basic!
The bed was large - but as a result the sheet didnt fit! Instead of fitting two sheets they left the bottom section without any sheet! Not particularly hygenic!
We were given damp towels, the shower blocked up while we were there, we had to ask for toilet rolls to be replenished... we're only glad we didn't have breakfast here because goodness knows what we may have received!
The staff were friendly enough but were always sat watching TV in the weird lounge area behind the reception. There didn't seem to be any other facilities other than the yoga classes and the massage room.
No view of the sea, just a view of the ramshackle roofs of the buildings near the beach.
Big rooms in cost efficient place near beach

We had a good stay at this place. We came to look for a room at the guesthouse next door that was highly recommended (also looked great by the way), but already full. Hotel Baby Red Fish does not look much from the outside, but the rooms and bathroom are big and clean and a big comfortable bed for very reasonable price of 3000 rupies a night (about 20 USD). I saw from other reviews that some people payed the horrific amount of 140 USD (which it is definitely not worth), so I think it save to say to better just show up and negotiate instead of booking ahead. It was no problem that they did not have breakfast / dining facilities as the beach is only about 50 meters away with lots of restaurants and bars with beach view, what better way to start your day or enjoy dinner?
Laundry service was cheap and quick. Also definitely sign up for the yoga classes for about 1000 rupes /7 USD (see also Yoga with Asiri) at 9.30 in the morning or 4.30 in the afternoon!
slightly pricey

located towards the end of the beach and far away from the noisier side of things, this b&b can be considered slightly expensive for a very basic room with little wifi and shower with no hot water. Owner (Mr Mohd) was helpful and fluent in english. Good places to eat around this b&b includes Hot Rock and Hotel Tartaruga
Overpriced guesthouse
kurtm85 [TA], 08 Jan. 2013,
We spent 4 nights here over new years eve in Dec/Jan 2012. The rooms are very basic - concrete floors, no table or closet, no TV, no shower divider between shower and toilet (i.e. open bathroom). All of this is fine, however the 'hotel' markets itself as something more comfortable and at almost $140 per night during this period, excluding breakfast (there is no restaurant or dining facility, unlike what the pictures suggest), we felt incredibly short changed. For this price you can get an excellent 4-star hotel in many parts of Europe. The only positive thing i can say about the room is that the 4-post bed with mosquito net was very comfortable. We didn't spend so much time in the room anyway as we were usually at the beach or sightseeing nearby in Galle, however it would have been nice to feel like we received value for money for our accommodation. Sadly, we did not.
Lone women do not stay here

The room was very nice and clean, the best I stayed the entire time I was in Sri Lanka. I paid for 3 nights but only stayed 1 night because the hotel staff member followed me up to my room, tried to kiss me and get into my room when I came back that evening. It was a horrible experience which made me leave Unawatuma the next day.
