SIMPLY THE BEST!!!
suenrol [TA], 13 May 2013, Yarrahapinni, Australia
We just left My Village and our new accomodation is nothing compared to My Village! We wish we could have stayed longer, i know it sounds like such a cliche but this place is everything one could ever want. The attention to detail, be it the beautifull gardens, the rooms, the fine china they serve your tea and coffee in (we never drank out of the same cups we always got a different set ) and i might add the tea was complimentary as were the biscuits Sujith served with the tea. Dinner was fantastic we had the fish curry one night and chicken the next. Not only was their fish curry, it was accompanied by 8, yes 8 other dishes, rice and papadams. Their was so much we couldnt eat it all. Each dish also had different vegetables and flavours. Best meal weve had!! We ignored the one negative comment written by some Belgium people, and went on Safari organised by Sujith. It was fantastic, Sujith was up at 4.30 am to serve us tea and biscuits and see us on our way and when we arrived back we had a huge breakfast, vastly more than we would ever eat at home. Justin organised a tuk tuk to take us to a junction where the driver stayed with us untill the correct bus came along (which was express) and saw us on our way. They do not need to do these things but its all those little things (did i mention they also gave us dessert, yes free ) which add up and made our stay so special and one we will never forget Love you guys, we are already giving people your card and spreding the word. Keep up the good work and you will go far. Sue and Roland. :-) :-)
Great place to relax

Our family stayed at My Village for a couple of nights in April 2013 and the people who own it have made it a real oasis. The accommodation, food and service were all great, a bike ride into the banana plantations along the road was a special treat.
Perfect stay in Tissa
joymi310 [TA], 03 May 2013,
We stayed here for just one night at the end if April.
We arrived early, way before check in time, and even though the room wasn't ready they sat us down and gave us nice cold drinks! The room was lovely, hot water and air con! Perfect size, and kind of safari themed. We were in the room to the right of reception. The courtyard is lovely, and the healthiest looking dog in all of Sri Lanka is always there to keep you company or join you on walks.
Sujith seemed to do everything - cooking, cleaning, organizing tours etc! He organized our afternoon safari at a great price, with a really cool driver (no tracker which was perfect since all the jeeps follow each other anyway). The safari was amazing and we got up really close to some elephants, which was a once in a lifetime experience.
The food at My Village was mindblowing! We had roti for lunch and it was absolutely delicious. Dinner was awesome too, and Sujith kindly arranged dinner for us even though it was late by the time we got back from safari.
Highly recommend staying here, if we ever return we will be returning to My Village!

Fantastic haven

We are glad to see that my village hotel is no 1 hotel in Tissa and deservedly so. We stayed only 2 nights in My Village with our 3 children and also another friend. We found the accommodation and courtyard area spotlessly clean and also very comfortable, the kids loved the hammocks and we had difficulty getting them off them sometimes. There is also a very friendly dog who the kids really fell in love with. He followed us all the way into town one day despite us trying to shoo him back as we were worried he would be run over, in the end my husband ended up jumping in a tuk tuk and taking the dog back much to the amusement of some of the locals.
We found Sujith always helpful with a warm smile and nothing was too much trouble. He arranged our jeep safari and sent us off with a freshly packed picnic breakfast, this meant him being up before 5.00am which was something we really appreciated.
Many thanks to all the staff and Sujith
Beautiful boutique hotel in a quiet location
Petecarroll155 [TA], 15 April 2013, Macclesfield, United Kingdom
We stayed here for 3 nights from 6th - 8th March 2013. We considered this accommodation excellent value for money, our room was very big, stylish, clean and no mosquitos! The whole hotel was very tastefully decorated and the furnishings were of high quality. We used the free bicycles and explored the local area and cycled to the town. The food was of a high standard with excellent attention to detail and we were given a free bottle of wine on our last night. we arranged a full day safari through the hotel which again was excellent and we did see leopards! The owner and staff were up very early preparing our breakfast and lunch for our 5.30am safari departure. We fully recommend this hotel for those that want a quiet location and with easy access to Yala National Park.
Hübsches Guesthouse
Sidany [TA], 13 April 2013, Heidelberg, Germany
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!
TaraLut [TA], 11 April 2013, Ghent, Belgium
We arrived at the B&B, which in all fairness was very nice. Nice courtyard, garden well tended to, room and bathroom clean although the bathroom had a bit of a sewage-smell problem. Asked the owner if he could arrange an afternoon safari for us, he could, for 11500rupees, not cheap, but we agreed, preferring to book with a reputable firm. What a mistake... The start of the safari was agreeable enough, the driver seemed to spot and know plenty about the wildlife. At the beginning of the tour, a tracker hopped onto the jeep, we presumed it was included in the price, after we entered the park, he let us know that he expected another 1000rupees for his fee. We decided to let it slide. After 2hrs of safari, we stumbled upon a very large male elephant with long tuskers, the guide told us he estimated the male was about 50 years old. He also said he could see the male was in must which means the male wants to mate. It also means his testosterone peaks, which makes him very agressive and, as our guide put it, a little crazy. Nevertheless, both guide and driver opted to follow the male rather than turn the jeep around and drive away. Both my husband and I questioned this decision but the guide assured us there was no problem... Untill we drove around the corner and the male was waiting for us. He charged us, head on. I can honestly say it was the scariest moment in my life. His tusker got caught in the front of the jeep and he ripped out the front part of the jeep. He then went off and rather than driving off, the driver opted to get out of the jeep and collect the parts of the car that were scattered on the ground. Once again, he did not put our safety first. We got past the elephant and left the park at breakneck speed. Needless to say, my husband and I were shocked to say the least and did not feel like we should have to pay such an expensive price for such a dangerous situation. We could have been severely injured or worse. When we got to the B&B, we explained what had happened. The owner was not at all sympathetic, he said it was to be expected, it was wildlife. We fully understand that an elephant is a wild animal, what we don't understand however, is that an experienced driver and a trained guide chose to follow a very dangerous animal. The owner of the B&B went off in a huff, telling us he didn't have time for this, he had cooking to do and he expected us to pay 75% of the full amount. We did in the end, because he didn't leave us much choice. He also didn't speak to us for the rest of our stay. Appalling service. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Steer clear. If something serious happens, don't expect any support from this B&B.

Polyvotis [TA], 07 April 2013, Kefalos, Greece
