Excellent location for safari
Chris A [TA], , New York City, New York

This hotel is excellent as a jumping off spot for Yala. It's also fairly close to the main city center (200rp tuktuk) and also very close to the lake. The hotel itself is incredibly comfortable and well designed. From the sitting areas downstairs to the sort of "modern safari" styling of the rooms, there are great places to just sit and read or mess around on the good wifi. It's impossible to find a better value in Tissa. The staff also made us a packed breakfast on the morning of our safari, and made it extra early since we left at 5am to beat some of the traffic at the park gate. I'd absolutely stay there again.

Beautiful place and good food
Simona L [TA], ,

We booked a deluxe room at my village for two nights at the beginning of April. The hotel is nicely designed, it has a beautiful yard, the rooms are spacious and clean. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Food is good and it is freshly prepared. Definitely recommend this place as very good value for money in Tissa.

Entering another world
floodings... [TA], ,

As soon as you enter the main gate of the hotel you think you enter another world. The garden area is nicely decorated so that you can relax and spend your evening before the safari.
The rooms are very spacious and clean. So is the bathroom.
You can organize your safari directly here at the reception for fair prices.
They prepare a take away breakfast for the day of safari as you'll be leaving early in the morning.

Great place to stay!
wrenren [TA], , United Kingdom

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was fab! The layout and decor of the hotel is lovely. The food is good and the rooms are well appointed. The shower is really good!! (need a good shower after being on a safari all day long!) Breakfast to go is sufficient. We stayed upstairs. There are no windows in the room but that didn't bother us as were out all day long! Do take mosquito repellent as there are plenty of mosquitos about as there's a large lake near by! AC was a relief as it's already pretty hot in February. Wifi works. Should we ever find ourselves wanting to stay near Yala National Park (only 25mins away by jeep) we'd definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: I think I chose an upstairs room from all the reviews on TripAdvisor!

My Village is a place to relax in a beautiful area
Patrick V [TA], , Bruges, Belgium

We booked this guest house because of the good reviews both in TripAdvisor and in Booking.com.
On arrival we were welcomed and we could choose our room. We were also offered a coffee too.
We chose a room on the corner, because this room was very spacious. The ceiling is quite high, giving a feeling of space. The room is painted in beautiful relaxing colors.
The bathroom is beautifully finished with a nice shower (with curtain) and a modern toilet. Always hot water!
In the room there are enough electrical connections. The lighting works well.
Also, there is a fan on the ceiling and there is air conditioning.
We have eaten a tuna sandwich at noon. This was very tasty!
We had dinner again at the guesthouse. It was delicious!
The price of beer is not too bad and very good.
We could park our vehicle (tuk-tuk) in a fenced area in front of the guest house (part of the domain).
We have also booked a safari in Yala park through My Village at a very attractive price.
Promptly at five o'clock in the morning the safari jeep was at the door. Sought provided us with a breakfast package - it consisted of a number of sandwiches, fruit, yogurt and a chocolate drink.

The next day we took breakfast on the terrace. The breakfast was complete with delicious coffee, toast, eggs, butter, jam and a big plate of fresh fruit.

Notwithstanding the menu is on the small side, we had still a nice dinner every night in My Village.

Congratulations to Sujith and his team, who make every effort to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
Everywhere is cleaned and swept all day so that everything is shipshape.

My Village is a place to relax in a beautiful area, as the architecture, the colors and the garden are very soothing. Highly recommended!

Unique and stylish guest house with great food, rooms and service
Sue T [TA], , Hoi An, Vietnam

This is a memorable place to stay - can't recommend it highly enough. The design, decor and facilities are amazing for the price. The food is all freshly cooked to order - breakfast is wonderful and their rice and curry so good. The whole place is kept very clean and there are comfy chairs around to lounge in the peaceful garden. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room upstairs in the main building.

Excellent Choice
Dave C [TA], , Brisbane, Australia

My Village is modern but has character. We stayed here for two nights & can recommend it. It was a good safari base. Comfort of beds, air conditioning, wifi, hot water & cleanness where all excellent. The staff were most friendly & keen to please. I enjoyed the chicken curry so much for dinner on the first night I reordered on the second! Remember to bring an aerosol as there were a few mosquitos outside & cash for payment.

Fantastic food, nice place to stay when doing a safari
salbay10 [TA], , Brisbane, Australia

Stayed 2 nights. The two evening meals we had at My Village- chicken noodles and fish curry were excellent and up there with the top food experiences we had in Sri Lanka in a 9 day visit. Breakfast was also a tasty serving of toast omelette (cheese or Sri Lankan which has a bite of chill, fruit and tea.

No card facilitates for payment. So come prepared with rupree.

Shower is the pump style - with patience suitable to wash but not is a luxury shower by any means. Service was professional arranged booking for safari, grounds very clean and well maintained the inner courtyard is a lovely place to hang out and read a book or surf the net with the free wifi. We had a couple of momentary blackouts due to overloaded circuits but a quick flick of the power box from My Village staff resolved the issue quickly and efficiently. The design of.My Village is well finished and presented. Air conditioning and lighting in the room we stayed in were excellent.

Beautiful Courtyard for Eating and Relaxing
aroundthe... [TA], , Ottawa, Canada

My husband and I stayed for six nights on the upper floor. My Village has a beautiful courtyard, excellent breakfast, a high standard of cleanliness, free use of bicycles, comfortable bed, wonderful shower, and soothing colours. The only disappointment was the lack of warm welcome and proactive service we have been spoiled by in our four weeks of travelling around this beautiful country. This might not have knocked the rating down to four in most places, but it was very noticeable in the Sri Lanka context.

FYI — English is very limited beyond the manager, which resulted in some incorrect food orders. We also note that there are some design elements which do not look very child safe such as the open staircase to the upper floor, which has no railing.

Luxury accommodation for a budget price
suzieb246 [TA], , London

My Village was a delight to stay at- clean, luxurious and modern. There is a relaxed area with hammocks and comfortable chairs which is very enjoyable to sit and watch the bats fly over at night.
During our travels through Sri Lanka, My Village was by far the best value for money and one of the best places we stayed at. They cook food on site which was yummy and reasonably priced and they organised safari for us which was great fun (we saw 2 leopards, an elephant and lots of other animals).
Only negatives were:
1) When we arrived back from safari we were dusty but there was no water (hot or cold) left. As we were checking out anyway we just showered at our next guesthouse.
2) Wifi is very slow
3) Safari was good but we'd initially booked by email and upon arrival were told that the jeep arrangements had changed and so therefore could no longer go. We ended up resolving the situation but this did cause some stress as we didn't have long to arrange other options
4) Manager could be more friendly but the rest of the staff were very attentive and welcoming.
Despite the negatives above, I would definitely recommend and it is a luxury accommodation for a budget price (we paid 5,500 rupees for a double room).
