Totally agree with all the other positive reviews about My Village Hotel. The place is awesome. We only stayed one night but would really recommend this place to those travelling to Tissa and surrounding sights.
You've got to be lucky (or book early) to get a room, as there are only 5, but the whole place is beautifully appointed. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and modern, the garden is peaceful, the food is delicious and the service is top notch.
We also booked our Yala National Park safari through the hotel. In addition to the delicious packed breakfast provided to us on our departure, we were in a really nice and modern vehicle with an excellent driver. We saw leopards and a herd of elephants (including a 3-4 week old baby) up close, along with heaps of other stuff.
Beautiful guesthouse at a good price.
Boutique hotel at backpacker price [TA], , Berlin, Germany
If you score a room here, consider yourself lucky! The architecture and interior design are top notch, the gourmet food outstanding and the garden enchanting. We were especially touched by the low-key, unassuming hospitality that was all about attention to detail -- fresh juice upon arrival, mosquito coils at dusk, no sales pitch about safaris (we booked ours with them anyways and got a great Landrover jeep with a nice driver). The room rates are ridiculously cheap for what you get. We read other reviews before booking, and thought people were exaggerating when they said that it was the best place they stayed in Sri Lanka. We can only concur!!
Best accommodation on our 30 day trip and the cheapest [TA], , Melbourne, Australia
I have never been so surprised in all my years of travelling to get such high quality accommodation and the best service for such a low price. Rooms were spotless clean, service was amazing - tea and packed breakfast ready at 4.45am to head off on safari anddelicious fruit shake on return from safari. The food prepared by the guys in the kitchen was some of the best of our trip. We loved our time in Tissa and our stay at My Village - don't look any further for a place to stay.
excellent place [TA], , Hamburg, Germany
We stayed at My Village at the end of December 2013. Initially we had booked for 2 nights, but we stayed another night as we loved the place. The rooms are clean and good value for the current rates. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and they helped us arrange for tours to Yala and Kataragama. Bikes for touring the immediate surrounding area in Tissa were given for free. We also had dinner there and loved the Rice & Curry. Whenever we go back to Sri Lanka we will definitely go back and stay again at My Village. Keep up the good work guys!
great place to stay for safari [TA], , Sydney, Australia
Rooms and ensuite were spacious, modern and clean, complete with air con and hot water. It was extremely peaceful being able to sit outside on a lounge chair or hammock and relax. We especially enjoyed the complimentary fruit juice upon arrival, which was a nice touch. Our morning safari was also organised through My Village. A packed breakfast was also provided for us to take with us during the safari.
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable. We really enjoyed our stay here away from the hustle and bustle.
Captivating place [TA], , London, Uk
We really enjoyed our two night stay at My Village and felt sorry when we had to move on. The modern rooms are very large with equally spacious en-suite. Each room leads onto its own veranda with own seating area from we enjoyed the complimentary fruit juice we were given when we first arrived. It was a nice touch. The garden is very peaceful and I spent a few hours in the hammock watching the different birds that entered the garden. If you have time I would recommend using their cycles (free to use) to explore the pretty countryside, which we did one morning. Lovely staff and delicious food for dinner made My Village our most favourite place to stay in Sri Lanka.
Immaculate [TA], , Liskeard, United Kingdom
a lovely place to be. Spotless, friendly, lovely garden and birdlife - a real oasis from the hustle.
Lovely staff who organised our Yala Safari for us, and great Curry and Rice too.
My best place to stay in Sri Lanka.
fabulous [TA], , london
my village is tucked away down a little lane next to the lake - it is fantastic value for money. the staff are lovely, the food delicious and the rooms and grounds a very very tasteful - could not recommend it highly enough - also really enjoyed being able use the hotel bikes (free)
We stayed in Tissa one night, and went on a safari at Yala National Park in the morning. My Village Hotel was a lovely place to stay! We spent lots of time lounging in the courtyard area (chasing the shade around the yard), and borrowed the bikes once the weather cooled down. The staff at My Village were very accommodating and gave us bike directions to find the fruit bats in town. They made us a huge and lovely breakfast to take with us when we left at 5 am for the safari. The room was very nice, with lots of nice light. It was clean and comfortable. If there was more to be done in or around Tissa, we would have stayed longer.
Quirky place - loved it [TA], , norwich uk
This is a most interesting place if a little difficult to find. You go through a small door into a large peaceful courtyard. When the building is completed (if ever) it should be superb. I must state that the unfinished building did not in any way affect our stay. The staff are excellent and friendly. Our room was probably the largest I have ever stayed in. The large bed is in the centre and the semi circular windows are amazing. Food was good and it was lovely eating outside. Without hesitation I recommend this establishment - I would happily stay there again.
