This was my best stay in Sri lanka
Bryony T [TA], ,

Most accomodation in Sri Lanka is old and run down, and very over priced for what it is. My Village is the opposite. Located just off the main road and close to Yala nation park, this hotel is so well maintained and I loved my stay here. The staff was friendly, our room was immaculate and looked very new yet still comfortable and homely. Had the best nights sleep on the most comfortable bed and the room is still completely dark in the morning.

Homely stay in a tranquil atmosphere

We spent one night at this small cozy place, within close proximity to the Tissamaharama tank. The interior looks spectacular and surprisingly it was done by the owner himself with an attractive mix of colours. The garden is neat and well maintained with few hammocks hanging around making it ideal to read a book or may be log on to internet using free wifi of the hotel. The rooms are equipped with necessary amenities including a/c, hot water and a good comfortable beds. They serve local delicacy rice and curry which is most made of local vegetables with less oily stuff. The hotel arranges Yala Jeep Safari on request and other incursions in the area. Samantha the owner of the hotel personally attend in to all the guest related matters and the small staff is very friendly and professional which gives a homely feeling. If you are looking for a quiet, very clean and cozy place to stay I do not think there would be any better place than My Village in Tissamaharama.

Room Tip: the corner room in the first floor overlooking the tank

Amazing in every way!

We were in for a treat the moment we arrived. Incredible place, awesome, SPOTLESS bedrooms with own outdoor seating. Welcome fresh smoothie on arrival, looked after so well throughout. Wonderful food. Great advice without any pushing. Wonderful gardens to chill around. Free bikes and lovely walk down the road in a remote area. Can't recommend this place more highly!

Best Stay in Sri Lanka

We loved everything about our stay here except that we couldn't stay longer! From the moment we arrived to when we left, Justin was on hand to help us have a most pleasant time. Sitting in the leafy courtyard was soothing after the searing hot sun and our room cool, spacious and comfortable. It is hard to say what was best about this place because every aspect of it was beautiful with the design and art as well as being run in an efficient way. Breakfast was delicious. The cups of tea and smoothie...wonderful. If we could take Justin back to New Zealand to run our Bed and Breakfast we would be very happy indeed. Thank you so much.

Best value for money in Sri Lanka

Having spent 2 weeks in Sri Lanka and staying in a variety of accommodation this place really won us over. The ever-smiling owner Sujith was friendly and professional and never pushed us into using the tours or drivers of the hotel like many other places do. We did book a safari with the hotel which was fantastic. Comfy jeep (just the two of us) and our driver was ruthless which paid off as we were lucky to arrive early and see a leopard who was arguing with a crocodile over breakfast!! We also had dinner at the hotel which which fantastic . The rooms are big and clean and really well designed, and the gardens are beautiful and relaxing to laze around in. The hotel also comes with monkeys who were fun to watch chasing each other across the tree tops :) One word of advice for fellow leopard spotters: when you are up and Handed your picnic breakky, don't bother sitting down for the cup of tea offered (as nice as it was!).... Your wasting precious leopard spotting time, get straight into that jeep!!!!

What a lovley place

My village is stunning, from the outside gates, to the wonderful under cover area with many sitting places, to the well appointed, spotless rooms. But the best part is Justin. He is a delightful and helpful man. From bringing drinks, arranging tuk tuks, knowing the bus timetable, and arranging a fantastic tour to Yalla. We ate on two evenings at the hotel (the town is a coupe of K away), and the food was fantastic, especially the buffalo curds and honey.

Monkeys came to eat the mangoes each day, and there was a profusion of birds, lizards, goannas etc. I thoroughly recommend staying at My Village for a couple of days.

A pleasant overnight stay. Lovely dinner.

We stayed at My Village Hotel for one night after our Yala National Park Safari.

It's a quaint boutique hotel with only 3 rooms and the African type decor went hand in hand with the Safari theme.

Our room was big enough for the four of us - two adults and 2 kids (9 & 12 yo). The beds were comfortable and the aircon worked efficiently (so could have done with thicker blankets).

The children were disappointed that there was no TV in the room but this was fine as we were only staying for one night. Also we had a portable DVD player they could watch a movie on.

The complex offered free WiFi but it worked intermittently in the dining area (& just outside the rooms). Also by about 8pm there was no WiFi - we're guessing it was turned off for the night.

My Village is not "party central" and would be a great place to unwind. It seems better suited for couples rather than families with young children as there is not much space for the kids to run around in.

The highlight of My Village was the dinner served up upon our return from our Yala adventure. The chicken curry was delicious and the accompanying vegetable dishes were very tasty. We were also served ice-cream after dinner.

Would highly recommend My Village Hotel.

Fantastic place to stay

I stayed here for three nights in March this year (2015). Sujith (the owner) couldn't have looked after me better - fantastic service and delicious Sri Lankan curry in the evening. Sujith also arranged a brilliant bird-watching tour by tuk tuk - much better than joining all the other tourists in Yala and Bundala. The guest house is very peaceful, on the edge of Tissa tank. The rooms are very clean, modern and great value for money. It was far the best place I stayed in Sri Lanka this year.

Loved this place

We loved My Village. Fabulous huge rooms, spotlessly clean. All the staff were excellent and the food was really good. They don't have driver accommodation so our driver stayed just down the road but ate all meals with us. Really lovely outdoor area. When we came to settle the bill, the owner gave us a discount (unasked for) and also included all our drivers meals for free. Very generous. Would happily stay here again.

A pleasure to stay there.

Spent two nights at My Village on the recommendation of a friend whilst visiting Yala National Park. I was not disappointed.

The room was great. Nicely designed (by the owner who is an architect). Little touches like small stone shelves at different heights built into the wall.

The patio area outside the room was a pleasure to relax in. Lots of plants and trees and the same afore mentioned design.

Breakfast was included in the price (4500 rupees). Lunch is available and dinner (on advance order).

The owner was around but the older man working there was wonderful. Quiet but friendly, gave me a good vibe. The guys in the kitchen had pretty limited English. Didn't understand when I asked for water.

They have bicycles which you can borrow. This I recommend doing. You can go for a really nice ride along the western shore of the lake with rice paddies on one side. Perhaps stopping at Lake Edge Guesthouse for refreshments.

The only negative was that the wifi wasn't working. But on the other hand it meant I read a great deal. And sort of remembered what life was like before I began spending half the day staring at my phone. However if wifi is important to you maybe call and ask if it's working before reserving/turning up.

Highly recommended.
