The best hotel we stayed in on our trip!
Karl B [TA], , London, United Kingdom

Cold fruit shake on arrival :) Room was great - amazing a/c (which had been turned on ready for our arrival in the baking heat!) and comfy beds. Fantastic service - lovely food, huge breakfast and everything was organised to perfection for us during our stay including full day safari and taxis whenever we needed them. Tasty packed breakfast and lunch provided for our safari, and tea and biscuits waiting for us when we returned. Its a 15-20 minute walk from the town centre but there isn't much to see there anyway. This place is ideal as a base for those wanting to go on a safari or hop on a bus to Kataragama. Only negative was that the wifi didn't seem to be working but this may have been sorted since. Highly recommend staying.

Friendly staff made our stay

We had a wonderful stay at My Village. The room was spacious & clean with air con & just outside there was a lovely tranquil courtyard. The food was amazing we highly recommend the curry and rice. The staff were wonderful, they were very helpful & attentive & nothing was too much trouble. They organised our trip to Yala, which was the highlight of our stay and helped us plan our onward journey. We highly recommend this guesthouse as a place to stay in Tissa.

warm welcome

We stayed here for 4 days in July 2014. Sujith arranged a safari for us and the driver was excellent. He was very experienced and knew exactly where to wait for the leopard so that our jeep was right in front as the leopard came out of the bush to drink - very exciting. The room was lovely. Extremely spacious and nicely decorated with a seating area outside for breakfast. The Sri Lankan breakfast was excellent and we ate dinner here 2 nights which was delicious. The service overall was also excellent. A pot of tea would arrive in the afternoon with biscuits which was a lovely thoughtful touch. Would thoroughly recommend.

Relaxing place to stay
Sunshine8... [TA], , London, United Kingdom

The rooms are large and spacious and look very trendy but not very functional. For example light and fan switch by the door and not near the bed! There is little furniture in the room except a bed and dressing table. The showers look good but are mounted very high and are a challenge to work how to use them, once mastered there was poor water flow. Air condition worked well. Although this may sound like a negative review, My Village was a relaxing tranquil place to stay and I would have liked to have staed longer. We stayed half board and the evening meal was delicious, Sri Lankan curry with lots of little dishes.

Peaceful place with great food
bobcarlso... [TA], , Leeds

Little bit out of "town" but really peaceful, great value, amazing food and possibly the best service ever - recommended. Free bikes to explore around the lake, organised our safari at a good rate, very easily and nice extras like tea/coffee without having to ask. The usual Sri Lankan howling dogs in the night the only minor downside but think that's unavoidable wherever you go!

Relaxed, very very clean, friendly personnel, very unique design!!
Mafasha [TA], , Breda, The Netherlands

We had the seperate 'villa' across the main building where the restaurant was...My first impression: wow.. we had our own big garden, and this cute little house with 2 rooms. The simple, modern design, combined with the warmth of the sub tropic climate of Yala/ Sri Lanka was very well done. The owner is a very friendly young man, who has good control over everything. He manages his staff very well (a boy camelate in teh evening the store the hammocks that where set up during the day), our stuff like shoes and all where tidied up..). The dinner we ordered during the day was served exactly on time (19.00hrs), and was like the overall athmosphere of the hotel; clean/modern/tasteful!

Exceptional host, beautiful rooms and surroundings
lava_tree [TA], , Melbourne, Australia

This is the type of guesthouse you can sit back and comfortably relax in beautiful surroundings - flora and fauna! Rooms spotless and very spacious. Comfortable bed. We ordered the rice and curry for dinner every night and this always included a mulititude of delcious side dishes - it was always more than we could eat. The Sri Lankan breakfast is also a must! Sujith - the owner - is very warm, welcoming, friendly, generous and treated us like royalty! Fresh fruit juice on arrival and free bikes to use as you pleased. We were enoying ourselves so much we stayed an extra night. Sujith also organised our safaris of Yala and Bandala National Parks. On request he was able to find us an excellent bird guide and also lent us his bird book.

Good launching pad for your Yala safari
Helen H [TA], , Brisbane

This is a delightful place - recommended to us - with lovely rooms, a warm welcome and a tranquil courtyard. Safari to Yala was arranged with no trouble at all with an excellent driver. The food was also excellent. The plumbing was a bit whiffy, but you get that in Sri Lanka. We just kept the bathroom door shut. Other than that a lovely stay - and another excellent driver organised for our onward trip. Thank you for a relaxing night.

Excellent value, very kind host

We arrived for a Yala safari which Sujith arrange all for us. He also arranged our onward transfer to mirissa afterwards. sujith was very kind, serving juices and teas at no extra charge. He also provided lovely packed breakfast for the trip. The hotel is lovely. The room was spotless and really nice. There is a lovely little courtyard to sit in.

Just amazing hotel, the best of the trip
mgprabhu [TA], , Mangalore, India

I must admit that My Village Hotel was by far the best hotel we stayed in during our entire trip. The staff were helpful lot.

Located near the lake the hotel gives you much wanted privacy. With 3 rooms on one side of the road and another 3 on the other side, it is the best place to relax with no disturbance at all. This well maintained property is any travellers delight. Although a bit pricey when compared to other b&b in the town it is very much worth the price you pay.

The hotel arranges for Safari at reasonable prices. Packed breakfast is provided during the safari. You have cycles provided for free in case you want to explore Tissa, especially the lake side.

If you heading to Tissa, this is the best place to stay.
