Little bit out of "town" but really peaceful, great value, amazing food and possibly the best service ever - recommended. Free bikes to explore around the lake, organised our safari at a good rate, very easily and nice extras like tea/coffee without having to ask. The usual Sri Lankan howling dogs in the night the only minor downside but think that's unavoidable wherever you go!
We had the seperate 'villa' across the main building where the restaurant was...My first impression: wow.. we had our own big garden, and this cute little house with 2 rooms. The simple, modern design, combined with the warmth of the sub tropic climate of Yala/ Sri Lanka was very well done. The owner is a very friendly young man, who has good control over everything. He manages his staff very well (a boy camelate in teh evening the store the hammocks that where set up during the day), our stuff like shoes and all where tidied up..). The dinner we ordered during the day was served exactly on time (19.00hrs), and was like the overall athmosphere of the hotel; clean/modern/tasteful!
This is the type of guesthouse you can sit back and comfortably relax in beautiful surroundings - flora and fauna! Rooms spotless and very spacious. Comfortable bed. We ordered the rice and curry for dinner every night and this always included a mulititude of delcious side dishes - it was always more than we could eat. The Sri Lankan breakfast is also a must! Sujith - the owner - is very warm, welcoming, friendly, generous and treated us like royalty! Fresh fruit juice on arrival and free bikes to use as you pleased. We were enoying ourselves so much we stayed an extra night. Sujith also organised our safaris of Yala and Bandala National Parks. On request he was able to find us an excellent bird guide and also lent us his bird book.
This is a delightful place - recommended to us - with lovely rooms, a warm welcome and a tranquil courtyard. Safari to Yala was arranged with no trouble at all with an excellent driver. The food was also excellent. The plumbing was a bit whiffy, but you get that in Sri Lanka. We just kept the bathroom door shut. Other than that a lovely stay - and another excellent driver organised for our onward trip. Thank you for a relaxing night.
We arrived for a Yala safari which Sujith arrange all for us. He also arranged our onward transfer to mirissa afterwards. sujith was very kind, serving juices and teas at no extra charge. He also provided lovely packed breakfast for the trip. The hotel is lovely. The room was spotless and really nice. There is a lovely little courtyard to sit in.
I must admit that My Village Hotel was by far the best hotel we stayed in during our entire trip. The staff were helpful lot.
Located near the lake the hotel gives you much wanted privacy. With 3 rooms on one side of the road and another 3 on the other side, it is the best place to relax with no disturbance at all. This well maintained property is any travellers delight. Although a bit pricey when compared to other b&b in the town it is very much worth the price you pay.
The hotel arranges for Safari at reasonable prices. Packed breakfast is provided during the safari. You have cycles provided for free in case you want to explore Tissa, especially the lake side.
If you heading to Tissa, this is the best place to stay.
Positives - huge rooms away from the main road. Arranged an excellent guide for Yala Safari. Good food and free bicycles.
Improvements - we really rely on the internet as we plan day-to-day but the reliability over the two days was poor.
As a side point Tissa as a town offers very little.
What an amazing guest house! Myself and my partner stayed at My Village for two nights and can easily say this is without doubt the best guest house we stayed in throughout the whole of Sri Lanka. The rooms were spacious, super clean, comfortable bed, lovely shower and beautifully decorated . The gardens just outside the rooms are stunning with a variety of different plants and wildlife which you can watch from the many hammocks dotted around the garden. The food we ate was also of a very high standard at reasonable prices! To top it off however was the great hospitality and friendliness of the owner and his staff. Always doing a little extra to make are stay great (such as bring us welcome juice, putting mosquito coils out by our door an being able to use their bikes to discover the surrounding areas) aswell as organising our trip to yala national park (which they gave us a packed breakfast for!) with a great driver.
Negatives of My Village? There are none!
If you are planning on doing the safari you HAVE to stay here!!
Thanks for a great stay,
Matt and Amy,
We spent 2 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms are cheery and large with nice bathrooms and a seating area outside to enjoy a drink and read your book. The staff are really great and made our visit memorable, from helping us locate a lost laptop (returned in super quick time), to arranging our safari (saw a leopard & elephant to name a few), to providing great meals and lovely friendly service.
I can thoroughly recommend this location from which to enjoy the Yala National Park.
Totally agree with all the other positive reviews about My Village Hotel. The place is awesome. We only stayed one night but would really recommend this place to those travelling to Tissa and surrounding sights.
You've got to be lucky (or book early) to get a room, as there are only 5, but the whole place is beautifully appointed. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and modern, the garden is peaceful, the food is delicious and the service is top notch.
We also booked our Yala National Park safari through the hotel. In addition to the delicious packed breakfast provided to us on our departure, we were in a really nice and modern vehicle with an excellent driver. We saw leopards and a herd of elephants (including a 3-4 week old baby) up close, along with heaps of other stuff.
Beautiful guesthouse at a good price.
