Frangipani Beach villa is situated at a beautiful and very clean beach. When you wake up in the morning, you have a really nice view over the sea.If you wanted to walk to the centre of Tangalle, it will take you 5 minutes. It's possible to rent a bicycle, there is free internet and you can change books. The rooms are really big and clean. The staff is friendly and helpfull.
Free WiFi available. In all the rooms, there is a mini-bar.

There is something very special about this place that made me stay my whole holiday here. I don't know if it was the beautifull beach with palmtrees and sea, the very friendly people and great service or the relaxed atmosphere. The only thing I know is that I had a great holiday here and I am going back next year. Frangipani beach villas opened januari 2011 so everything is new. It is a beautifull hotel on the beach between palmtrees where you can relax and have a nice swim. The beds are big and have great matrasses for a good sleep at night. Every room has a terras where you can relax and have a cup of tea (or lunch/dinner if you want).
The hotel has also a restaurant with good Sri Lankan food and delicious fresh seafood! The staff is very friendly and speak good english. They can give you a lot of information about the neighboorhood and can arrange excursions for you. With a tuk-tuk you can go to the rock-temple (a holy temple where you can see a beautifull sundown) or you can go to a turtle-project where you can see big turtles in the wild, even the famous leatherback-turtle. Or you can walk to the mangrove-forest where you can take a boottrip. The hotel can arrange a trip for you to one of the national parks where you can see elephants, buffalos and even leopards. The centre of town is only a minute walk. It is amazing that you are only 5 minutes away from town but at the hotel it is nice and quiet and you don't hear any streetnoice. The sea is beautifull and you can have a good swim there. On the beach you can have nice, long walks without seeing any other tourists. That's what I like about this place: it is not a place with mass-tourism where you see all the tourists on the beach. At Frangipani you can relax under the palmtrees or have a long walk with the feeling that the place is yours (and that's not easy to find any more). It is also great to see the fisherman fish with big nets in the morning. You can see them pulling the nets back to the shore (you can even help them) and see the catch of the day. It is also a great way to get in contact with the local people which are very friendly.
To be short: I can recommend this hotel to everybody (also for a family) it is the best place to have a relaxed holiday!! The hotel has everything you need so you don't have to think of anything and you only have to enjoy your holiday!! I can't wait to go back.

We were supposed to stay only one week but guess what we stayed more because it really feels like home.
Like everywhere in Sri LAnka the staff is really nice but here there is something more.
The rooms are big and confortable hot water and fridge. The balconies are nice and sea view.
The restaurant is both srilankan and european that's nice to change... and the sea food Oh my god!!!
The hotel is on the beach so no need to walk
it is very quiet and peacefull
we were very sad to leave our second home...

Très jolie villa sur la plage de Tangalle. Proche du centre mais bien au calme. L'accueil est très sympa, chaleureux. L'équipe est toujours agréable et fait son maximum pour vous satisfaire. On y mange très bien (excellentes crevettes entre autres) en écoutant le bruit des vagues. Il y a des transats posés sur le sable. Un petit paradis.

Depending on what you want this place may be for you. We preferred the places more like guest houses/ B+B but this one was much more like a hotel. We got an upstairs room but payed a lot less than what they initially asked so definitely negotiate your price. The room was lovely and clean and having a bar fridge to have cold water was a lovely luxury. The night we were there a massive party was on further down the beach but it didn't keep us awake. Only a 10 minute walk to town. Although staff were able to answer questions it didn't have the same vibe as some of the other family run places we stayed at.

Nous avons passés 2 nuits à Tangalle au Frangipani. L'accueil a été très chaleureux! Le personnel de l'hôtel est très à l'écoute et fait tout pour vous satisfaire! L'emplacement de l'hôtel au bord de la plage est juste TOP. On y mange très bien, j'ai adoré le poisson et les desserts! Un petit endroit de paradis, au calme que je recommande!

Oh how we were sad to leave frangipani! We stayed there for 6 nights, more than we planned to, just because we enjoyed it so much.
Located right on the beach (the water are not very calm at this area, but if its too much you can take a tuk tuk for 100 RS to a calmer beach). great room very colorful and nicely designed, and totally peaceful.
Lovely restaurant downstairs, good breakfast with fresh juice every morning.
And most of all, the good feeling and vibes of the frangipani team. Great service, very friendly and helpful. We were staying there with our 2.5 yrs old son, and he spent the afternoon playing ball with the workers of the place, to the sound of Bob Marley:)

Lovely villa on the beach

We arrived hot and tired from an early morning safari in Udawalawe, and were given a choice of rooms on the ground or first floor.
We chose a first floor room, as it had a nice big balcony and sea view, and as there is no air conditioning hoped there would be more of a breeze up there. There wasn't!!
Initially the room seemed nice, large bedroom and spacious shower. On closer inspection the walls were totally grubby; cobwebs and dirty finger marks around the light switches. The bed sheet was a tatty old yellow throw.
We had a wander up the beach, hoping for a selection of places to eat, but there was nothing around, just a deserted beach.
There was supposed to be wifi available, but I could only pick it up in the downstairs lounge or at the top of the stairs.
We were booked in for 5 nights and wanted to leave the next day.
However, we had a good meal there in the evening, and the staff were so friendly. We noticed them constantly sweeping up, trying to keep the place nice.
We warmed to the place; yes the walls in the room were dirty, but the villa has a nice charm.
We did leave after the second night because of the lack of options in the vicinity; we like to go out in the evenings so we would've been bored staying much longer.
Overall I would recommend this place for a short stay, for total relaxation on a deserted beach.
Optimal zum Relaxen, jederzeit wieder

Wir verbrachten 4 Tage hier, sehr schönes Guesthouse zum Relaxen direkt am Strand, ruhig, sehr freundliches und immer hilfsbereites Team, Essen sehr gut, Zimmer sehr gut ( da es ungewöhnlich heiss war und wir auch schon 60 Jahre alt, vermissten wir ausnahmsweise ab und zu eine Klimaanlage, deshalb nur befriedigende Schlafqualität ),Tangalle-Ort mit Markthallen und Fischerhafen zu Fuss schnell zu erreichen. Gäste aller Altersklassen und aus aller Herren Länder.
Wir würden ohne jede Einschränkung jederzeit wieder dort absteigen.
Good location and nice room

We stayed there for two nights in the room with balcony on the 1st floor. The beach is just a few steps away. The hotel served very fresh prawns which just came out from the sea. And all the staff working there can speak better English than other guesthouses. But all the rooms with balconies are without air-conditioning, some smaller rooms even without hot water. It is very difficult to fall asleep in the March time of Sri Lanka with your door closed, the only way is to open the door to balcony and let the sea wind blow in. So the 1st floor rooms are not quite safe when sleep at night leaving doors opened. One night I stayed very late sitting on the balcony, to about 2 am, and I suddenly saw two local men walking by without any sound in the dark, it's terrified. So that night, I had to close my door to the balcony, and had a sweaty night of sleeping.
Fantastic laid back hotel but Tangalle Beach itself a big disappointment

I feel a tad guilty writing this review as the Frangipani Beach Villas is a great hotel, with a laid back vibe, very friendly staff , good food and a reasonable room rate. If it was located at Mirissa I would give it an Excellent rating.
Unfortunately a hotel's location is intergral to having an enjoyable stay and my girlfriend and I just did not like Tangalle Beach at all.
Lonely Planet, Trip Advisor and a couple of other sources describe Tangalle Beach as the next undiscovered Mirissa. The reality is that Tangalle looks like it was briefly discovered some years ago and has then been largely abandoned. The beach itself is quite dirty with a lot of litter and numerous abandoned or derelict buildings. It is very difficult to swim at Tangalle (in March at least) as the single wave break is very close to shore and is very forceful. Powerful undertow is created which makes it like swimming in a washing machine. My girlfriend had one dip in the water and never went back in again.
Maybe it comes down to personal taste - I thought Mirissa beach was simply gorgeous and would love to go back tomorrow. Others have described Mirissa as over developed because it has some restaurants built on the beach.
Tangalle certainly has fewer tourists and a lot more locals - but the fisherman seemed over eager for tourists to help pull in their nets and there were signs posted at the Frangapani warning tourists not to enter the fishermen houses (not sure what has gone on there?).
Tangalle is supposed to be quiet but unfortunately we had a wedding next to the hotel on our first day and hideous Sri Lankan pop music blared out of a boom box all day long killing any serenity.
If you like lying on a deck chair in the sun, with little tourist infrastructure (other than the excellent Frangapani hotel), by a wild beach watching fisherman go to and fro then this is the place for you.

super villa avec les chambres qui donnent sur la plage ! le coin est magnifique et d'un calme ... quel bonheur de se réveiller et de trainer sur le balcon le matin en attendant le petit dej ou d'aller se baigner à 8h du mat dans de l'eau à 28 °C ! l'équipe est super sympa et peut vous fournir tout ce que vous voulez (besoin d'un tuk tuk, d'un taxi, d'acheter des choses en ville ? pas de problème! on vous amène où il faut)... et si vos enfants s'ennuient, ils jouent avec au foot, au volley ou ils se baignent avec ! on y est restés 3 jours, mais j'y serai bien resté 1 semaine ! juste un bémol sur le restaurant , la nourriture n'est pas à la hauteur des autres maisons d’hôte que nous avons faites.
