Magnifique hotel pour finir le séjour
Elisabeth B [TA], 25 April 2013, Brussels, Belgium
Missed Opportunity
Petecarroll155 [TA], 15 April 2013, Macclesfield, United Kingdom
We stayed here at the end of our 4 week holiday to Sri Lanka, the intention being to relax for 7 nights after spending 3 weeks on the move. We stayed from the 12 - 18th March 2013. Pros: Beautiful location, nice room, fantastic views from our balcony - we think ours was the best room No.7 overlooking the rocky headland, good value for money for half board, some staff very friendly e.g. waiters and garden/maintenance people, the waiters ensured that we had a good spot table each evening, although not to everyones taste the ceiling paintings were quirky and atmospheric, the pool area very relaxing and clean, the peacocks and abundance of birds in the gardens was lovely, good air conditioning. The hotel organised a driver who took us to Galle via tuk tuk and stopped at various location along the way, he was very good and he also took us to the airport at the end of the holiday by car. Cons: We stayed at 8 different places in Sri Lanka (all pre booked in England) and this was the only hotel that requested a deposit. Not a problem doing this but we could only do a bank transfer which cost us an additional £25. On arrival this was the only place without a welcome drink etc and found the reception to be uninviting and not very pleasant. A more welcoming atmosphere in the reception area was apparent after we complained to the Manager. The food was generally ok and the two chefs very pleasant - it would be good to have some anti insect burners etc to help fight the battle of insects jumping into your food at night! The whale trip for us was disappointing - the hotel boat was excellent until it broke down and we were then transferred to another already overcrowded boat. When we did spot something that resembled a whale it was difficult to see because of the number of people on the boat. The manager did offer a free trip the following day (but we declined because we couldn't face another very early start and long boat journey). A better alternative would have been to refund some of our money because this was an expensive trip! The reception area did not have any tourist information e.g. local area, trips and costs, use of sister hotel on the beach, history on the painting on the ceilings of the rooms. We only knew you could use the sister hotel because of reading comments on Trip Advisor! We would have preferred if this was not compulsory half board and consequently slightly cheaper. Overall, this hotel could be fantastic if the management could just see the missed opportunity and potential.
DomiPaysBas [TA], 07 April 2013, Pays Bas
Strange place
MiniReviews [TA], 25 March 2013,
Pros: very friendly staff, good location on the cliffs
Cons: very grubby around the edges, lacks identity with beach feel but large amount of painted decoration (which wasn't to our taste), half board seems compulsory and the meals are very average.
Tips: watch out if staying on a Saturday as loud music from the beach party goes on until late, ask the chef for ice cream for dessert, tuktuks ordered from reception seem good rates.
Le Paradis au bungalow 206
RobertBaccarat [TA], 10 March 2013, Baccarat
Bernard F [TA], 20 Feb. 2013, Agen, France
Review on Restaurant only...
sofiteme [TA], 18 Feb. 2013, Singapore
Informed the staff at our hotel that we wanted a good local food after returning from the whale watching trip. Our driver took us here...Not recommend should your hotel points you to this place.
What an odd place to be sent to by our nice hotel in Galle Fort for lunch after whale watching. Tired, hot and hungry, expected the food to be Sri Lankian authentic, and service to be reasonable (not fast) but reasonable!! When we arrived, there was one guy blasting his music, and he finally noticed that we were there. Thank goodness, for his kind gesture to turn off the music as we we would not be able to relax or hear each other over the sound quality of the device.
As we waited there for menu, then waited to place drink order, then waited more for our drink to arrive, and waited and waited again to place food order, then waited and waited more for the food to come. Oh man, we had the opportunity to look up and see the decors of the restaurant. It was entertaining for all of us to try and figure out. Yike! (Take a look at the pictures). I want to add there were just a few diners there also who are with the hotel.
The menus felt a little sticky/tacky to the hands and really not appealing to order food off.
After our meal, waited more and more for the bill to arrive. And even more interestingly, we had to wait to pay by cash. The waiter did not know how to take $$ for our bill. He ended up accompany us to the office of the hotel to pay. Apparently it was a first time for him that we were not hotel guests and ate there.

Wonderful potential
ACF196 [TA], 16 Feb. 2013, Salisbury, Wiltshire
We stayed 2 nights in this hotel. The cabin was a good size and the location wonderful even though there is a steep little climb to the beach. On the down side the food was not particularly good and the reception area is poor. The cabin was not particularly clean and the kettle did not work (and was not replaced while we were there). Fundamentally a hotel with fantastic potential let down by poor management.
Beautiful views, terrible food
Rona B [TA], 09 Feb. 2013, Auckland Region, New Zealand
This should be a fantastic hotel but seems to be poorly managed. It's in a beautiful location but they just don't make the most of it. Agree with all the other reviews about the food - it was the worst we had in Sri Lanka, it was really terrible! If you're stuck with a half board package like we were then you can ask to eat at their sister hotel on the beach - food is better there. Staff here don't seem to care, room wasn't serviced in our 3-day stay.
