Location very good. Service was good and the management were very helpfull when we needed a ground floor room and when aircon didn'nt work so no complaints there. The rooms are very basic but functional and bathrooms seemed to be retiled recently. I thought maybe some what a little over priced however they have probably one of the best restaurants in Hikkadua called the Woodfire and was packed out every night. All in all we enjoyed ourselves.

Thank Goodness arrived dusk so could not "see" the grounds/area! EBWgirl [TA], , Aurora, Colorado
The ONLY good thing about this place is what another reviewer "460kismet" said about the beautiful sunset, and THAT is Nature NOT this awful hotel. My room was okay, and was at the end so I did get to see the sunset from the balcony of the room, but like I said because it was dusk, the darkness completely masked the rundown, dirty, bottles-strewn all over the place, rickety steps to the beach, and just plain awful environment of this place. RESORT??? PLEASE, someone, anyone...REMOVE THAT WORD FROM THE NAME OF THIS PLACE!!!
At night I was served a meal..luckily I am adaptable and can eat most anything...The food just appeared...no one asked what I wanted, no one offered a menu, no one even SPOKE to me, no one did ANYTHING. Then in the morning, I came down about 8am...which I thought was a reasonable time to ask JUST for a cup of tea..did not even want to eat, and was told the "boy soon coming"....THAT translated into my getting up, going for a walk on the beach (even that entailed taking my life into my hands on the rickety stairs down from the property to the beach), returning at 0845, asking for tea AGAIN, and being served at 9:30am. The view for that tea sipping was an abandoned concrete "hut" of some kind that is filled with garbage, and to my left a stack of old bottles about 3 feet high.
Immediately called my guide to get me out of there...and he said he would be there at 11am. Went up 3 flights of stairs and collected my things. THERE WAS NO ONE AROUND FOR ME EVEN TO ASK FOR HELP WITH MY SUITCASES... so I brought down the first one...by then there were five men...I won't un-dignify the word gentlemen to use on them, these five men were literally "doing nothing"..they stared at me, a rather short female, lugging suitcases down three flights of stairs, and never even changed the expression on their faces, nor moved a fraction of a centimeter to help.
I consider myself a pretty adaptable and tolerant person, but this was beyond what any person should have to accept.
FINAL SUMMARY COMMENT: STAY AWAY!!
Not clean but cheap 460kismet [TA], , Bentota, Sri Lanka
Hotel is not clean much more. Always facing problems with sea breeze. Rooms are not sea view. Only 2 rooms they had with sea view in top floor. But price is very cheap. But you can see beautiful sunset from the beach side in the hotel.
Not in low season.. humis [TA], , Jelgava, Latvia
Don't stay in this place in low season. Now one is around is like ghost house. Dirty, sticky and there is nobody around to look after you. Beach is very rough in July, there is nothing much to do around. There is particularly nothing included, not even a cup from where to drink water.
Perfect location Rachael A [TA], , Cape Town Central, South Africa
We arrived here as our first hotel for our trip and very soon realised we had made the right choice! This was in our opinion the perfect distance from the "main" part of the beach where there are lots of noisy parties and close enough to join in the fun when you want to. The accommodation was clear and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Do not get a fright if you get woken up by loud bangs on your first night as we did, it is only fireworks from the neighbouring Mambos, it wont go on long. This was another reason we were pleased to be where we were as this is a common practice in Hikkaduwa, that nights party hosting bar fires of fireworks at around 10pm to call the punters so further down the beach you will have this problem nightly, whereas in the Appolo it will only be on a Friday when Mambos is hosting. I highly recommend this for couples wanting some party but also a little romance. On our return to Hikkaduwa we actually checked out of the other hotel we were meant to stay in to check back into the appolo!
Nice place to start you south journey, really great owner. JonathanMeyer [TA], , Copenhagen, Denmark
Really great owner. Hi picked us up in the air port. And from day one we had the feeling that he would only try to give us the best advise about what to see and were to go in Sri Lanka. On our way back to the air port from our 3 weeks in the south of S.L. we had booked a budget room in Time in tide, when we arrived all the budget rooms was booked so we had the suite to a budget price. So nice to experience a place/person there is trying to help/advice you, instead of empty your wallet. Many greetings to Ajith one of the owner on Time n tide. You truly gave us the best start and end of our holiday in Sri Lanka
Good Value, great location. 01Michael [TA], , Kuwait
Start by remembering that you are only paying a few dollars a night here... then you'll love this one. This hotel is great. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We had a balcony which had nice views of the beach. if we had a complaint it would be that the shower was hot in the evening but we struggled to find warm water first ting in the morning. Breakfast is served in the gardens, overlooking the beach and the sea, Fantastic location. The choice of food was very limited. but its a lovely place to start the day. Staff always seemed keen to help, even if it did take a little while for things to be actioned. If we are back in the area. We will stay here again as it was comfortable and good value for money.
Not to be trusted. juliezzz [TA], , Perth, Australia
I had stayed at this mini hotel on the beach several years ago and at that time, had a good experience and so decided to stay again. I had made our booking for 2 rooms 7 months in advance (quoted $70 p/n) and had regular contact to ensure the reservation. The last email confirming my booking was 3 days prior to arrival. When we arrived at the hotel, I was disappointed as the grounds at the beach side of the hotel looked quite run down, with rubbish, old loungers and blocks of concrete lying around in front of the breakfast area. There were also two bulldozers parked on the beach directly in front. The front room on the ground floor that I suspect was designed as a restaurant area was also now being used as a store room/garage and was not attractive at all. Not to despair, we were asked to wait for our rooms for an hour so left our bags and went to get some lunch. When we got back, the manager advised that they had just had a new booking with 14 guests arriving, and that we could not have our rooms. Unashamedly, without blinking an eyelid he denied that he had sent me an email confirmation and that there was a mix up with the booking that was my error. He said that they could relocate us in a nice 1 bedroom apartment elsewhere (not on the beach side). I was in disbelief that just 3 days I had an email from him to reconfirm the rooms and that I had kept in contact with him for 7 months. Needless to say I did not want to give my money to these disreputable people, so I walked a few doors down and got a fantastic walk in rate at another hotel. Needless to say that I feel these people are untrustworthy after this experience.
Great place with the Indian Ocean at your doorstep PhebeB [TA], ,
The hostel is an hour or so away from Galle by local bus. But it's worth the time taken to get there as the Indian Ocean was so close to my room - the beach is quite short. The breakfast was very sumptuous and it's great a place to just chill and enjoy the view. The rooms are clean and good though the wifi signal was slightly weak in the rooms.
