This hotel is in a great spot and we could park the car out front conveniently. The staff are really friendly. Everything is old and shabby but maybe not surprising given it's the cheapest beachfront hotel with a pool along that strip. HOWEVER... the pool is not as good as it looks in the photos, it's old and not that clean and our young daughter kept getting little cuts on her feet from the uneven tiles. Not great!
We loved our time at this hotel. The pool overlooks the amazing ocean, wonderful staff and a great layout of rooms. Not the fanciest place, but great value for money and one of the best places we stayed in Sri Lanka. Coming back from a day on the beach to swim in the incredible pool was wonderful. The rooms have bar fridges so you can easily buy a drink across the road at the Wine Shop and indulge while relaxing at the pool. Quite perfect.
The rooms aren't very nice, very damp and we had loads of ants in our bathroom. It looks slightly old and could do with a makeover. However, the breakfast overlooking the sea and the banana pancakes are amazing, and the staff is so friendly and welcoming.
It is completed with scenic view in the indian ocean. Rooms are well clean and cheap. Not only but also rooms are equipped with hot water, AC, private balcony, mini bar and Safety deposit box...etc. These are great value for how much we pay. I had 1 night stay. It is very calm place with sound of ocean waves and view.
Room were good clean. AC was not working and we managed with the fan. I loved nice view. we missed the Disco since we did not know where it is happening. Anyway staff are friendly pool is good. Good expereince. Please guys improve on our service element and communication. Im not refering to the language. Its about serving what you request not anything else. But i think it is value for money.
Booked for four nights via Agoda. Rate was pretty good considering what else was around and to be in the beach with a pool was a deciding factor.
The pool was extemely murky looking up until our last day when we were told to go into our room while they put a chemical treatment through it...... It was only after this I could see that there was a dolphin on the bottom!!
We were given a room on the top floor and the wifi didn't work at all. It was important to have as I was in the middle of finishing an assignment for an online course and my sister was due to give birth. The lady who worked at te hotel was really apologetic and I asked if it wasn't fixed could we move to a downstairs room. She didn't promise anything but I do believe we were then 'upgraded' to a ground floor room facing the beach (107)
It was nice to have the little terrace to be able to look out to the ocean. The room was cleaned everyday with lovely sheet arrangements done which was a nice touch.
There was a party in Hikkaduwa on the Saturday night and a bunch of people at the hotel attended. They got back at around 4.45am - and were being loud in the restaurant area. The next morning one guy who was still drunk from the party was being incredibly rude to the staff about getting his breakfast that he came up and took food from our plate!! I know this isn't the fault of the hotel but it still affected our experience.
I could sympathise with his anger to some degree as we waited AN HOUR for breakfast on our first morning. For the next three mornings we made sure we were at our table as soon as breaky was 'open' we also weren't offered a Sri Lankan breakfast on the first day - so it took an hour for eggs and toast. My advice would be to create some sort of buffet area for Sri Lankan breakfast items OR bring the fruit platter first, at least then people can munch on something while waiting for their hot food.
The restaurant staff were really lovely though... Always smiling and wishing us a good morning.
The hotel had nothing in the way of beach beds set up.
Being so close to the sea there was a constant damp feeling in the room all the time too and a lot of things were quite rusted such as door handles and keys.... This meant that to shut a door you had to slam it..... Which happened quite frequently amongst the other rooms/guests.
Tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge were provided which was good.
The hotels location was good but I would look elsewhere if I was in Hikkaduwa again.
Go for the Suite Rooms and you have all the Indian Ocean - Great Beach Front South view and Sun Set around 18:00 in front of you with the most fresh sea breeze. An excellent relax in a wide room in antic big beds - feel like prince and princess.....
Management and owner are very guest oriented and well attached to every request by the guest. Good Sri Lankan Curry Breakfast if ordered just in front the Beach. An aditional great designed Restaurant and Pub is coming up which brings you back centuries, most probably Indian Fine Cuisine. Well to recommend also in l.ow Season. Very Child Friendly. We spent three days more than planned/.
Nippon villa was really a good hotel. I stayed in it for 4 weeks. The staff was really cool and also the food. Rooms are very clean and also this hotel has the best view in hikkaduwa. The owner Mr. piyal gunarathna is a polite man , he is very helpfull. This hotel has done many repairs and now i can see it is in a good condition.. nippon villa also arranged us a round tour , it was realy fun, we enjoyed a lot. i will tel my friends to also come to this beautiful hotel which is amazing. Thank you nippon villa for your service and kindness , Me and Jouch miss you a lot....................
it was my first time to SRI LANKA last year and having arrived in the middle of the nite, my driver took me to Hikkaduwa and checked out a few hotels...finally deciding on NIPPON VILLA...
Spent about 5 days there , with No regrets.... LOVE THE PRIVACY, THE POOL and the Staff...EVEN THE OWNERS WERE VERY FRIENDLY....
WELL DONE... WILL RETURN AGAIN , if i have to go to Hikkaduwa again....
Hikkaduwa has nicer food selections compared to Unawatuna and Negombo...and the shops are more varied and accessible...even the Ayurdeva spas were very good and within close proximity to most of the resorts there....unlike Unawatuna....
Anyway, i was again in s.lanka just last month and will hope to return to lanka yearly...there so much to do, and so little time...
AYUBOWAN... MAMA ADAREY LANKA - I LOVE LANKA
After an appalling time at Hotel Blue Note, we checked into Nippon Villa. The room we were shown when we first went to see the place was lovely. Bright, airy and clean at a reasonable price. There was a pool and the staff seemed polite.
When we actually got to our room (we were delayed because Hotel Blue Note took ages to check us out), we were given another room, which had wood worm in the wardrobe, table and frames. In addition, the shower didn't work, nor did the toilet, and the towels we were given smelt like a chemical, like petrol or diesel. When I explained and asked for replacements, I was told that there weren't any. At all.
We also explained that the toilet didn't flush and that the shower wouldn't even start, instead of moving us to another room however, they said whilst we were out a plumber would fix it. Feeling a little apprehensive at this, but with little choice we came back to discover...the shower was still broken. We complained again. This time the solution was to allow us to use a room which was occupied by another couple who had gone away for a couple of days. So their solution to our broken shower, was to allow us into another paying residents room whilst they were away. This to us was unacceptable, so when we checked out we paid significantly less for the room than we were quoted, which they argued with and eventually accepted. We only stayed one night and left.
