Wood worm, allowed us into another guests room.
Samuel W [TA], 18 May 2013,
After an appalling time at Hotel Blue Note, we checked into Nippon Villa. The room we were shown when we first went to see the place was lovely. Bright, airy and clean at a reasonable price. There was a pool and the staff seemed polite.
When we actually got to our room (we were delayed because Hotel Blue Note took ages to check us out), we were given another room, which had wood worm in the wardrobe, table and frames. In addition, the shower didn't work, nor did the toilet, and the towels we were given smelt like a chemical, like petrol or diesel. When I explained and asked for replacements, I was told that there weren't any. At all.
We also explained that the toilet didn't flush and that the shower wouldn't even start, instead of moving us to another room however, they said whilst we were out a plumber would fix it. Feeling a little apprehensive at this, but with little choice we came back to discover...the shower was still broken. We complained again. This time the solution was to allow us to use a room which was occupied by another couple who had gone away for a couple of days. So their solution to our broken shower, was to allow us into another paying residents room whilst they were away. This to us was unacceptable, so when we checked out we paid significantly less for the room than we were quoted, which they argued with and eventually accepted. We only stayed one night and left.
Cheap, funky, and kinda cool

I stayed here in Dec 2012, high season and no hotels left but this one and since I had emergency trip with no planning, it was my only choice. Cheap, needs lots of help but owner was doing lots of remodeling at the time. Lots of people were complaining, but it was a cool place. Nothing to get excited about, but fair price clean rooms, good fan/air con, wifi only in the lobby (big turnoff). Anyway, if you are used to high quality and great service, perhaps look elsewhere, if you want to be left alone and are ok with basic conditions, you will be fine,
3 days in Nippon Villa
Villahaka [TA], 11 Feb. 2013, Budapest, Hungary
We had a nice small room. Every day we got daily cleaning in the room. They arrenge a small corner for my morning yoga in the room. That was nice....they moved out one bed, because of that.. My bed was soft and comfortable for me, after some hard beds in other hotes. The young boy in reception is very nice and friendly, He is doing his best. Swimming pool didn't look clean to me. To get breakfast you need lot of time to wait.....So after 1 breakfast we cancelled it.. Otherwise is quite O.K., if you spend only 1-3 days there. The last morning we wait 1 hour for our driver, because somebody told hm we checked out already. That wasn't very nice.....

Need a lot of improvement.
Rajasekara [TA], 27 Jan. 2013, Colombo, Sri Lanka
First of all the service should be improved. Cleanliness should improve...staff need to be cheerful. Bathroom equipments are out dated. Poor water pressure. Food is bad and no choices for the meal. The best thing about this hotel is that its just next to the coral reef
Love this place!!!!
Ahundle [TA], 11 Jan. 2013, Melbourne, Australia
6 of us stayed here over New Years and it was fantastic!!!!! The staff are great the complimentary breakfast was awesome (homemade bread omlettes coffee and juice) good pool nice rooms with air con. Great location close to everything the furthest u will walk is 10 minutes to the end of the strip. Recommended!
Cheap but not near the action
Eblatch [TA], 04 March 2012,
Nippon villa was fine... Not great, but fine. And at that price who can complain?? Room was very basic and hotel is far away from the main beach... About a ten minute walk. Our toilet didn't flush and my boyfriend had to fix it. Nice view from the eating area, but the ocean directly outside is mostly reef so difficult to swim in. The sun beds are lovely though. And staff were helpful, and the rooms were cleaned daily. You get what you pay for, and for the cheap rates Nippon villa is fine, especially if you can get an ocean-facing room.
Do not stay in this hotel
Chanflor [TA], 29 Feb. 2012,
I have to go along with the other reviews. This place is dirty and dilapidated. We stayed in that hotel for one night and would not and could not have stayed one extra night. This is way overpriced, a total rip off. We are a family who are used to travelling (2 kids) especially in south east asia. The coffee was appallingly disgusting. I will post in some photos later on to testify my saying.
Average but may get better when finished
lymingelass [TA], 09 Jan. 2012, lyminge england
We stayed here as there was not a lot of options available when we arrived in Hikkaduwa. It is still a building site but seems to be getting near completion. We had a flatscreen TV put in our room the day before we left. Staff were friendly but not so the management. Pool was good and kept very clean. Rooms had the not quite finished look with exposed wires and our ceiling fan did not look that secure. Good location on the beach where it was a bit quieter then some other places. Restaurant not open due to renovations but breakfast was ok with standard fair.
noce place to relax
pumu2002 [TA], 02 Dec. 2011, colombo
most of the guest in this hotel says bad things about this hotel but what they are hiding is that they were looking for the cheapest place to stay and what they expect is 5 star treatment i stayed in this hotel few times and i have to say i got my moneys worth .
