NIPPON VILLA - Hikkaduwa

On the busy boulevard of Hikkaduwa's beach hotels, shops and night life, lies a quaint family owned hotel called the Nippon Villa. With a beautiful view of the ocean, over looking the pool with 26 rooms and one apartment. A cozy relaxing place awaits you.

The architecture reflecting to the nineteen hundreds with heavy wood work panelling in the dining area and bar and an impressive wooden circular stairs which houses a popular karaoke bar invites the average traveller to rustic atmosphere.

Although the hotel is 25 years old, the old charm with modern enmities continue with the place going through some improvements and changers to bring in functional aspects of accomodation.

Bedrooms were comfortable but average. The breakfast both eastern and western was served in full glamour by long standing staff with bright smiling faces. Fresh catch of the day made in to sumptuous curry to accompany a local breakfast favorite string hoppers.

The beach right against its horizon offers the average tourist both affordable accomodation , friendly service and all amenities of a perfect holiday. A must stay for anyone who is looking for a more relaxed laid back ambiance. Two nights were well spent with value for money.

Room Tip: All rooms are good get one on the ground floor

good location, good service

We enjoyed our stay here; we had two rooms facing the beach so caught sight of the sunset every night. We found the best place to go swimming was about a ten minutes walk further south where they rent out boards and sun beds and serve lunch (by Rita's guest house). The rooms and bathrooms were quite basic compared to european standard, but they were clean and functioning which isn't always the case round these parts. We were also very happy with breakfast, with freshly made juice or smoothie, fresh fruits, toast and so forth. We were also offered eggs.
With a mischievous son setting a new, totally secret password for the safety deposit box, locking the keys in the room before shutting the door and so forth.. the patience and service level of the staff was greatly appreciated. The Roti shop opposite the hotel is well worth a visit... or four...
The pool didn't look very appealing with an oily sheet on top

Room Tip: rooms facing the beach are charming. There was reggae music from next door well into the night, but...

This hotel is in a great spot and we could park the car out front conveniently. The staff are really friendly. Everything is old and shabby but maybe not surprising given it's the cheapest beachfront hotel with a pool along that strip. HOWEVER... the pool is not as good as it looks in the photos, it's old and not that clean and our young daughter kept getting little cuts on her feet from the uneven tiles. Not great!

Wonderful Stay

We loved our time at this hotel. The pool overlooks the amazing ocean, wonderful staff and a great layout of rooms. Not the fanciest place, but great value for money and one of the best places we stayed in Sri Lanka. Coming back from a day on the beach to swim in the incredible pool was wonderful. The rooms have bar fridges so you can easily buy a drink across the road at the Wine Shop and indulge while relaxing at the pool. Quite perfect.

The rooms aren't very nice, very damp and we had loads of ants in our bathroom. It looks slightly old and could do with a makeover. However, the breakfast overlooking the sea and the banana pancakes are amazing, and the staff is so friendly and welcoming.

Scenic view and cheap price

It is completed with scenic view in the indian ocean. Rooms are well clean and cheap. Not only but also rooms are equipped with hot water, AC, private balcony, mini bar and Safety deposit box...etc. These are great value for how much we pay. I had 1 night stay. It is very calm place with sound of ocean waves and view.

Need to improve but value for money with fabulous view of Indian Ocean

Room were good clean. AC was not working and we managed with the fan. I loved nice view. we missed the Disco since we did not know where it is happening. Anyway staff are friendly pool is good. Good expereince. Please guys improve on our service element and communication. Im not refering to the language. Its about serving what you request not anything else. But i think it is value for money.

Has potential

Booked for four nights via Agoda. Rate was pretty good considering what else was around and to be in the beach with a pool was a deciding factor.
The pool was extemely murky looking up until our last day when we were told to go into our room while they put a chemical treatment through it...... It was only after this I could see that there was a dolphin on the bottom!!
We were given a room on the top floor and the wifi didn't work at all. It was important to have as I was in the middle of finishing an assignment for an online course and my sister was due to give birth. The lady who worked at te hotel was really apologetic and I asked if it wasn't fixed could we move to a downstairs room. She didn't promise anything but I do believe we were then 'upgraded' to a ground floor room facing the beach (107)
It was nice to have the little terrace to be able to look out to the ocean. The room was cleaned everyday with lovely sheet arrangements done which was a nice touch.
There was a party in Hikkaduwa on the Saturday night and a bunch of people at the hotel attended. They got back at around 4.45am - and were being loud in the restaurant area. The next morning one guy who was still drunk from the party was being incredibly rude to the staff about getting his breakfast that he came up and took food from our plate!! I know this isn't the fault of the hotel but it still affected our experience.
I could sympathise with his anger to some degree as we waited AN HOUR for breakfast on our first morning. For the next three mornings we made sure we were at our table as soon as breaky was 'open' we also weren't offered a Sri Lankan breakfast on the first day - so it took an hour for eggs and toast. My advice would be to create some sort of buffet area for Sri Lankan breakfast items OR bring the fruit platter first, at least then people can munch on something while waiting for their hot food.
The restaurant staff were really lovely though... Always smiling and wishing us a good morning.
The hotel had nothing in the way of beach beds set up.
Being so close to the sea there was a constant damp feeling in the room all the time too and a lot of things were quite rusted such as door handles and keys.... This meant that to shut a door you had to slam it..... Which happened quite frequently amongst the other rooms/guests.
Tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge were provided which was good.
The hotels location was good but I would look elsewhere if I was in Hikkaduwa again.

Very Guest Oriented Management & Owner
Oliver E [TA], , Hikkaduwa

Go for the Suite Rooms and you have all the Indian Ocean - Great Beach Front South view and Sun Set around 18:00 in front of you with the most fresh sea breeze. An excellent relax in a wide room in antic big beds - feel like prince and princess.....
Management and owner are very guest oriented and well attached to every request by the guest. Good Sri Lankan Curry Breakfast if ordered just in front the Beach. An aditional great designed Restaurant and Pub is coming up which brings you back centuries, most probably Indian Fine Cuisine. Well to recommend also in l.ow Season. Very Child Friendly. We spent three days more than planned/.
